E30 Zone

has anyone got any good solutions or know any places that do the ducting and bolt to hub solutions?

I do need to get some sorted out asap for next track day.

I've been looking at brake upgrades & cooling.

The brake ducts in the TCMotorsports link look good. They are the same design I use on my race car to good effect. If you have the standard front valence, then run the flexible ducting from the existing brake duct intakes, or if you are running an after market front bar with spotlights, remove the spotlights and run the ducking from them. You will either have to remove (or modify) the plastic liners inside the front wheel wells to fit the ducting otherwise when you steer to full lock the tyres will contact the ducting (a problem when on track).

I'm not sold on the rotors in the second link however. I would be reluctant to use them on the track (the factory rotors would be better in my opinion). Check out DBA (Disk Brakes Australia). They use to make a 4000 series rotor for the E30 (their track/clubsport rotor). It is a great rotor designed for track use (I have them on my race car). A link to their site;

Thanks for the DBA 4000 Series plug Mike; might need these guys to pester the UK/EU Distributors to get some in for a trial.

You're welcome Dave, but it wasn't really a plug, simply credit where credit is due. I'm not sure I have seen a better direct replacement rotor for an E30 than the DBA 4000 series.

Also with regards to the brake ducting, I found this picture of my setup today. Note the missing inside wheel well plastic panelling to allow for the ducting. Also, We simply used a standard house gutter downpipe connector (rectangle to circle) to allow a very easy fit from the splitter (replaced the lower valence spotlights) to the ducting.

Another picture, this time from the front showing how the ducting is located (replacing the lower spotlights). We put some coarse mess over the front of the ducts to prevent stones being trapped in the ducting or against the rotor should the car find it's way off circuit.

On cold days, we simply push rectangle sponges into the brake duct intakes to either blank or partially block the ducts to allow the front brakes to build up temperature. Also a bonus if driving on the road at low speeds, and if they fall out, they are simple and cheap to replace and do not pose a risk to the other cars on the track.
