We're now running the ATL 12 US Gallon Well Cell with the built in surge tank and high pressure pump. Comes as an all in one unit you just need to do plumbing and wiring. Not cheap but much easier, just use a single in-line external filter.

0n the e21fuel tank in the spare well, pumps filters, swirl pot under the rear seat where the tank used to be, battery on other side. tank cut in half so the bottom section becomes a cover

thanks for your replies guys, could i trouble you both for some pictures?
i was thinking along the lines of a fuel tank in the spare wheel well with a in tank pump feeding the swirl pot then a larger pump feeding the fuel rail with inline filters.
have you guys ran the fuel lines in the cab or underneath the car?
thankyou

I have been looking into this for my touring. I was going to use a pre facelift lift pump in the 63l tank to feed a swirl pot in the spare wheel well. Then use a decent high pressure pump to feed the fuel rail...
Having had a look the feed to the swirl pot could probably go either underneath the car or inside. Inside looks to be the easier option
