Bit of a stupid one this, but does anyone know of an easy way to get rid of the brown 'aftermath' that is left in my car after stripping out the sound deadening? It looks gash but I'm hoping it might come off with some white spirit or summint... or am i gonna have to get the sander out?

If its anything like the underbonnet foam, whites spirits did it for me.

Is it bare metal? If it is ,maybe a bit of nitromous? Will be a bit extreme though if its coating in paint... Won't have any left if you put that on.

Bit of petrol will do the trick. Or anything like a carb cleaner aerosol.

Cheers guys - I'll start with white spirit and then get more hardcore if that doesn't work!

Here in Sweden we have something called "Label off" and im sure something similar is available over there. You just spray it on thick, leave it for 5 minutes and wipe it off, smells of lemons and is totally hazard free to get on your hands or anything. It dissolves the glue residue and leaves clean paint, i think i spent 2 hours getting the mats out with a heat gun then 30 minutes tops with the aerosol for all of my interior in my 325i -90, and I know of dozens with the same experiance.

I'll have a look in the 'Innovations' catalogue for some of that then! Cheers.

I just used white spirit and some panel wipe on a second lot I did, came out perfect.

That was in the summer. Went for a more extreme strip over winter last year when it was freezing. Just chipped off and barely left a stain.

One of the best solutions I have seen for this is to use dry ice (CO2). Place it on top of the insulation for a short while, let it freeze it and it should chip right off. The other solution I have seen is to use liquid nitrogen, but that's a bit extreme!

But of course, that doesn't help you get rid of the current aftermath!

I'll try the petrol idea and just make sure that I'm not smoking a fag at the time!!

I seriously cant imagine there NOT being the equivilent to our "Label off" in Britain. Its stuff you use to pretty much get sticker-glue and stuff off, we have several different brands with it here.

You just spray it on, wait 5 minutes and wipe off EVERYTHING, messing with white spirit and petrol must take hours and hours.

well i tried the petrol idea and walla done. got it all off and i felt high as a kite doing it. perfect.
could do with a slight drop of white spirit to clean the petrol residue off though.

timmy we never get useful things like that mate. everything is a struggle over here

Parafin is a good (and cheap!) alternative too!

It's a good alternative but I don't like the smell. Hehe.
I'll take some before and after photos abit later when I'll get a bit of time on the car. Using petrol that is with White spirit as a final finish.

i managed to remember to get some pics before i finished.
i basicly brushed petrol on and wiped off with a bit of effort.
then wiped clean with white sprit..... job done.
bad point is that you now can see all your rust spots hehe

I love it when unleaded becomes the cheapest way......

This happens rarely !
