I always travel on my normal insurance even on the track BUT its risky... some say as long as your insurance dosnt say anything about not being valid on the ring then you are covered as it is after all a toll road when open to the public, that said its also a ready race track, i know people who have had small accidents there and its always seem to go knock for knock but i have also seen BIG accidents there where people have died and god only knows how that gets sorted out insurance wise ? I would say do as i say and not as i do and shop for propper track insurance at least you know you and your motor are covered, but be aware even if you have a crash and its just you and the armco they will want payment straight away for the metal and the recovery or for tidying up any fluids you may have droped... If you have never been before you will love it ... Mad people and mad machines... Check out northloop.co.uk for more detailed info on everything.

Steve.

Don't ask whether you are covered, because they will say no....other than that. Assume you aren't insured and don't crash. Then forget about it and just enjoy it. Life's a risk!

If you crash , pay the Armco bill, drag it off the circuit and park in a ditch. I couldn't possibly condone this advice but it has occured more than once.

i've heard you can buy track cover once there on the ring itself, has anyone donr this or know the cost? i can insure the 'car only' for 70 quid a day which seems reasonable :)

Car only cover isnt going to help if you crash and they close the circuit.

You can't buy insurance there. They expect you to be fully insured in the first place.

Just go, enjoy it and don't drive like a knob.

I would guess any insurer who is offering third party liability cover as well as vehicle cover for the ring will stiff you with a colossal excess.

I have my M52 insured through a broker called Keith Michaels. The cover is with Highway. I was told when i took out the policy that they will bolt on ring cover for an additional premium. I didn't enquire further though. Worth a call. I dealt with a guy called Jeremy Pocock

If you are worrying about insurance, then you're probably not fit for the 'ring!

Most important thing is to get a european health insurance card, its free and thats you coverd!

NOt sure about the car, i would take the risk! but my cars work penuts and after an accident i wouldent be worrying about the money more about breathing!

Have the card, and beginging to think fu#k it for the insurance, a group i know who headed out last year never bothered either, and i don't bother on uk track days...

What toy are you doing it in? If you were to bend it, would you want it recovered back to England?

Any 'ring only insurance will be rubbish. It's a massively risky place so the premiums + excess to pay-out ratio will be woefull. Otherwise they wouldn't stay in busness very long!

Jeez, I can't believe the naivety discplayed on this thread. Insurance is not only for yourself but all others on the track. Just imagine the costs if you hit a biker and injure him/her, or worse still, kill them. Consider the "loss of earnings" claim if the injured party is on a six-igure salary and deemed unfit to work after an accident for which you are responsible. If not that, what about running into a Porker (there's plenty of them there) or other expensive machine?

Or just consider if you have a fluid leak and deposit oil/coolant on the track and somebody has an "off" on that. YOU will be responsible. Not sure what your resources are back home, but it wouldn't be the first time that an insurance company comes chasing the money and forces you to seel your house to pay.

Yes, the Ring is a public toll road. Many insurance companies explicitly exclude it on their policies, thos there is debate that this could be illegal under European law. In most (every?) event, the insurance company will pay up on 3rd party claims but then will likely come after you later to recover the money.

IMO, it's not worth the risk. Would you drive on UK roads without insurance?

yes and all insurance companys state the "nurburgring" if at all. You don't drive on that track thats the F1 circut? We drive the the northloop or nordschlief so technically.......?!

Its policed like any other road in germany! to the marshalls as long as the car is fit for use from the country of origin with insurance, you can drive round.

I just tell my insurance i'm going on the road trip on these dates and all they want to know is what countries your driving through so France, holland, germany, belgium

Screacher what you've said is all very well but f**k me theres some idiots on there and the chances of YOU being on the recieving end are just as high as the other way round

and when i crashed. ring office told me him self i could claim the barrier bill through my insurance becasue they have to payout.
its a tool road with a road name . and it is not 100 percent restricted. there is a section that is limited to 70kph

and if you are caught with no insurance and no papers to show the police they take it very serious.

a friend of mine . hit oil from a subaru impreza and he has pretty much lost the use of his knee/
yes the police took the subaru driver to court and my friends was insured but i bet the subaru driver wasnt.
and hire car. ! even worse .
every thing is excluded when it comes to hire cars. german hire cars have spotters. taking photos of them and posting them to the hire car companys. and the company pays 30 or so per car.
a friend got 3 in one pic in the car park of some hired audi tts .

its an odd one argued before.
ive taken the risk before. but i cant say i will now.

You could always rent a racer ... There are plenty of companys renting them out in the area, but there not cheap to rent and the excess is off the head but then its there risk not yours :? I can highly recomend
these guys
http://www.rsrnurburg.com/
and if you can get Dale to take you out on a lap then it will be one of the fastest laps you might ever have round the green hell winkeye

^^ Wow that site/business is awesome ^^

Now THAT would be the way to attack the Ring. Nothing would scare the hell out of you like one of those 996 or 997 Cup cars :D

My friend inquired at the company that insures his heavily moddified evo on track. Was quoted £200 per day.

Might sound pricey, but have you seen the price of one section of Armco? Let alone injuring another party.

Probably with a £6000 excess and a £6201 maximum payout!
