I am looking at buying a track day car and have come across a 325 that won the kumho in 1997. it has had a full engine rebuild since then and is going for just over 5k including the trailer. what do you all think. shoudl i buy it !! i am used to tracks a little bit in my pinto powered robin hood (lotus 7). I know a saloon car is very different in handling but i fancy the challenge and also get more safety (full cage * plumbed in fire etc)

will it be a pig to drive as it was set up for racing or will i get used to it

also - it hasnt got any strut braces but the cage is fully welded unde the bonnet and boot and does attache to suspension mounts - will this do the same job as a strut brace ??

cheers

If you are looking for a track car - then a proper one will be set up like a race car - that is its sole purpose.

Can't see why it would be a pig to drive - the only issue would be the idle - but you do not idle much on a track.

Seems like a good buy BUT what needs replacing because of wear.

My track car (M3 though) is costing much, much more than that

I've seen the ad, don't know the car. looking at the spec i'd say that was a good price especially if the engine is 215bhp as claimed & has a trailer. I've spent at least twice that on our E30 & we only have around 215bhp & it's currently winning by quite a distance from the opposition. I'd say take a good look & get someone good to check it over. Try Dave Kear, his no. is on one of the other threads here, he's the best man to speak to & it's likely that he might even know the car.

Strut braces can be added but in reality do not do alot if the cage is sufficient & goes to the front/rear turrets.

As for being a pig to drive, it will not drive like a road car that's for sure, it will however be alot faster & have far superior handling & if anything be easier to drive fast.
