E30 Handling for Fast Road - Track

Folks,

I am asking this I have no experience of the E30s handling.

However I have seen many clips of the E30 M3s abilities round a track, the nurburgring etc. As we would all agree the E30 M3 is an awesomely taltented car as far as handling goes.

My question is this, how close could a non M3 E30 come to the M3s handling abilities. I ask as I am looking at a 318IS and with peoples own experience can they come close?

Also if notable, what changes were made to the M3 for handling over the base E30.
