can i just confirm that the rear boot lid coverings are the small plastic trim pieces that cover the rear window screen? it has one on the bottom and 1 either side of the glass?

yes that sounds right. how much was the boot seal on its own? I might leave the side coverings for the moment and just look at the boot lid cover strip (along the bottom) and the boot seal

Just for comparison, a few years ago I bought a complete new tailgate with glass for about £700!

Those days are gone and not just for BMW, every car part is going up exponentially. Raw materials, labour costs and energy, none of it helping. That is why Insurance is going up too, the cost of fixing a car is stupid these days no matter when or where it comes from.
