The e34 is just slightly more appealing to me although i've only driven the e36. The e34 is supposed to have a better chassis. Straight line performance is pretty similar (3.6 M5 to 3.0 M3, 3.8 M5 to M3 evo).[/code]

Munich 'Legends' did convert one to RHD as I recall.

they did convert one.............scotchlock heaven!!!

iam lucky enough to have owned them all (e36 evo and non evo and m5)and m5 is a weapon

mine is in the touring form and its a very quick capable car which shocks a lot of people as to them its just an estate

potential money pit but these cars were very very expensive when new(140000 DM) and they may deppreciate but maintenance costs never drop

they like their fuel but not silly on a run i can get 29 plus to gallon loaded at 80-90

round town hitting the loud pedal its mid to high teens

last of the handbuilt M cars

4000 revs plus and they sound and pull amazing.

plus the touring is so practical and very limited in numbers.

they are not stupid on fuel if used sensible

dont get me wrong i think you could make it terrible

but they are nice and torquey

no need for 7k gearchanges and mines giving me 19mpg round town with the odd stretch of the legs

i think they need to be running right tho.ive had all valve clearences done which are critical to these engines

ive replaced the maf and 02 sensor along with water temp sensor to dme

nothing had failed but thats how iam.i justlike to know its all 100%

theyare a great car and long distances are eaten up by a car that was made to storm autobahns all day

very comfortable, loads of room and a kinda q car presence which i like
as opposed to the csl which you can hear coming from circa 2 miles away

E34 would be my choice but watch out for the running costs. Even if you get a good one you could be looking at 3-4k per year to keep it on the road, almost regardless of mileage.

Both are good cars though (E36 better still with a few choice Schnitzer bits).

E34 or E36 in 4 door verion. I like the practicality of 4/5 doors, but never really took off with the 2 door saloons for some reason.

Good luck in finding an M3 evo E36 saloon that DOESNT have hideous wood trim, I've been looking (off and on) for a black saloon with black or red leather and ANYTHING but the wood trim for about 2 years now. Yes I know you could replace the trim but i dont want the hassle.

So many green ones out there with crap leather and awful wood it makes you wonder wtf people were thinking

Both are a lot of car for the money but i think it has to be the e34 m5.

never driven either m versions but driven both standard cars, i would have the e34 as i have a 525i sport and that handles really really well and for the size of it is a very quick car! so an m5 must be a rocket ship! m3 must allso be a good car but the m5 is the better handler and a better car allround

I was offered the rhd M5 touring last year - the conversion cost £12000 at Munich but it had 200000 miles on the clock - it was in very good condition though and the guy who had it only drove it occasionally

I think he sold it back to the guy who had it converted in the first place
