Hopefully not oil getting past the pistons due to worn bores. I'm sure you've heard of the Nikasil dramas?

Could be Nikasil bore wear but you'd be unfortunate for it to develop at this stage of its life. If it is, avoid short trips and just keep putting oil in until it gives up the ghost. Probably best to get a compression test done is you suspect bore wear. What is it like at idle?

its defo not nikasil as the car has been checked and ive got papers saying its fine.

It idles and runs fine and there is no blue or smoke at all from exhaust.

Don't know about the 2.8 lump (M52?) but the later M54's do have quite a thirst for the black stuff.

Dude if it was burning it you would have clouds of blue smoke take it for a drive of 10 miles get somebody to rev it to at least 4k while you hold your hand a couple of inches from the exhaust see if it covers you in oil . You might not notice a leak because of the plastic covers under the engine get a powerful torch and inspect the engine from under the bonnet and remove the plastic covers and check there to 8O

possibly the grub screw in the side of the block. These are quite common, even worse in S54's!! Its right under the exhaust manifold IIRC.

M52's do like to use a bit of oil. What oil are using, out of interest? Should be Castrol 5w 30 semi synthetic i think
