Exactly right.
Merc have the whole trucks and thing going on too. This is exactly one of the reasons BMW's brand is so valuable and envied.
And also why they still have crazy parts prices for old cars - prestige.

If parents could divorce their children, bmw should divorce the mini.

Well its not a stupid question but let me say it like these, in some countrys where car tax is hig like Norway, Denmark, Finland etc you can get the X5 as a van. That means you can get it with out the rear seats like the LR Freelander SWB. But first of all, its all about money. They need to open a department who develop Vans and that is not cheap when you need to hire 3000 people and set up a new factory so we are talking billions of Euros for BMW to do that....
From the old days, some of these could you see in the Oslo traffic in the 80s as a van with out rear side windows.

they closed that loophole in the UK - there was a mad dash for double cab pickups being registered as vans but now they count as cars again.

A mate has one, loves it to bits.
I can remember a few years back a dealer was asked why didn't they do a commercial version of the X5 and the reply was: We dont want to go down that road.
The most appalling example of this so far i've seen was a Cayenne commercial. That must make 911 owners cringe...
