Depends on size. E39 will fit, but you need a reducing spigot ring of about 1/2 mm or something. E36 MAY fit, but they're offset is 40 ish. E34 is about the same as E30's 10-25 et.

now this is all a bit vague, my old mans tellin me the tyres he needs for his car are 230/55/390, these are dunlop sp 2000e, his car is on an m plate, and these are proving quite hard to get hold of, im no expert but cant a different size trye fit on the wheels, bbs, ie maybe 225 or something
i could well do with some advice here as i dont wanna see the old fella ripped off

They are metric tyres he has on there.Imperial,ie 15/16" tyres wont fit those wheels.
Metric tyres can be very expensive to buy so most people simply replace the wheels, usually much cheaper!

thats seems to be the order of the day eko, so im gonna look for some wheels with decent tyres that will fit his e34,
by all means the above tyres where only made for a two year period only, fact or fiction who knows

All depend on what he wants really. Cheapest option by far is a set of earlier 15" BBS that they virtually all came with. 225/60x15 tyres can be got dirt cheap and the wheels are obviously a perfect fit.
Another route is to source a set of 16" 540 e34 rims. These were 5 or 6 spoke and would also be a perfect fit. Benefit here is that it wouldn't make the car look any older (I always look at a wide grill e34 with early rims and think "makes it look older than it is)
Set of e39 16" with spigot rings is the next route although I ain't seen many e39 rims that suit a 34 that well. The standard 15" look terrible IMO and the turbine 16's are debatable.
Other than that he's into after market stuff unless he goes for M5 rims, ACS or aftermarket.
