Hey :)

I recently purchased a cheap run around as my fuel bills are sky high with my new job, so i got this to help funds, and it also gives me time to sort everything on my e30 properly :D

Its a 316i Coupe / 1995 'M' Reg / 101k miles / FSH till 96k

Heres the pics, let me know what you guys think, was it a bargain?

For 300 quid you'd expect an old sh1tter of a cavalier or a sierra that you'd look a right t0sser in. How good does that look? Has to be bargain of the year. You could turn up anywhere in that and get out of it head held high (instead of parking it round the corner out of sight).

Well done mate, a pucka car. You'll make money on that all day long

Not an e30 though is it?? I've got an e36 on the V plate and it aint screwed together anywhere near as well as the e30.

It ain't that poverty....colour coded bumpers (these look hideous with the grey bumpers), front fogs, rear spoiler, alloys, sunroof, clear indicator pack. I know most of thats probably been added but I've stumbled on some really lowly e36's some with wind up windows in the front!

As you say.... a steal.

Bargain.

However, its not going to be that much better on fuel than your E30.

Ive got a knackered old Diesel runabout. Cost about the same, but it does 525 miles to £40 and I can leave it in a multistorey and not be too concerned if somebody opens a door onto it. That 316 is a bit too nice.

Bargain at £300 I say, definate profit margin if you were to flog it on!

I picked this well specced 98 323i up last week,1 owner, years MOT and masses of history for £1300.
Going by the prices on pistonheads/Ebay etc looks like we both did well winkeye

looks like you both did well, and on the plus side, when fuel prices drop (well maybe not) and you get bored of chugging around you can chuck a v12 in them and have some fun. winkeye

ps eko, dont you find that chrolie accross the street just a little tempting winkeye

Thats OBs(Andys) 318is winkeye
Honestly though mate, after driving both cars back to back for the same time/distance,drove the chromie to Bath then the E36 back home....I know which I prefer winkeye
Mine is surprisingly good on fuel too compared to my M50ed E30.Saw an average of 32.9 to the gallon on the way home, which I dont think is bad?

oh no! seduced by the dark side of e36 wrongness.

though tbf if i had a family to transport or used the car to get to work, id be bloody tempted with an e'dirty'6, especially for £300 8O

alot of that is standard spec on the coupe..

Not to take anything away, he has robbed the previous owner

Thanks Guys, youve all put a smile on my face :D The last owner is still a bit upset he sold it to me, he has regret written all over his face when he sees it.

Im currently getting an average of 19mpg from my trips to work and back over a week so the e36 should help, even if it only achieves 30mpg. if i was REALLY REALLY bothered about fuel costs then i wud go buy a cheap 106 diesel but at the end of the day, its no BM and this one came up at the right time with a very nice price so i snatched the guys hand off winkeye

That 323 looks nice!

I must say i was in love with my e30 from day one, i never used to like e36s at all, the shape was too plain, too boring, too chavvy, too common. However, theres something about the e36 coupes i like, only in standard form though, get it looking squeaky clean put some big wheels on and MAYBE lower it 30mm, job done. I have to say, white BMs are my new favs.

I had an E36 316i se saloon for 4 years and have just sold it this weekend. Before that i had a E30 325i saloon. Big difference in fuel consumption. Doing £400 + miles a week the 316 would average about 270 miles for each £30 of unleaded with reasonably sensible driving. I think they are well built cars capable of big mileages, (if maintained properly) mine still drove really well at 159000.

Looking at what appears to be overspray or unmasked white on the inner plastic arches I guess it's had paint and at least a rear offside quarter but 300 still seems good. So long as it drives straight and true I don't see why you should have any issues. Well apart from rust around the filler and arch possibly appearing within the next 12 months or so, unless the repair has been top drawer. And at 300 sold, it may not be, but that's it really. Could well be a perfectly good reliable runabout.

I am sure you would know about these things with or without my silly mutterings. :D

the other good thing is, i know the complete history of this car as it was a mates mum who bought the car from new and its always been with someone i know, its had no rear body work done but has had the front nearside arch done as it got dented by a drunk whos foot slipped  it drives straight and everything, just need to look at the power steering, the steerings a bit heavy, might just be fluid though. everything else seems fine :)

That's an absolute steal. The '94 onwards 316i's with the M43 engine are a fantastic little car. A really nice, smooth engine for a 4 pot, no cambelt hassle, excellent economy (40mpg on a run) and pi$$es all over a M40. Apart from the odd head gasket they're a fantastic thing and practically bulletproof.
