Looks pretty nice, but don't think they've beaten the E30's lines yet...

Only photo I could find from the same angle :)

Edit:
On second thoughts doesn't it make the E30 look old? A bit shocked now :(

It looks crap. Looks like a Lexus Soarer. Or any other 'sschlick' Jap coupe.

This is not an E30 V new M3 debate so let's leave that parked.

I just think their stuff is getting really really bland.

Bonnet bulge is marketing bollocks.

The fron valance is nice but as a whole it's just too safe. Nice and pretty but not really jaw-dropping.

Is it? Or is it to cover the v8 that is mounted so close to the bulkhead?

No it isn't.

It's marketing nonsense. To 'emascualte' it. Like the M - Button on the wheel. Every boy racers Kinghtrider fantasy made true.

Oh yes, the engine is just so massive they had to bulge the bonnet to contain it.

Come on man.

Kinghtrider was awesome.

Most of the top of that V8 is plasticky nonsense to smarten up the engine bay anyway...

The engine starts 3 metres down.

No it's because they wanted it close to the bulkhead...

Why, do I hear you ask?

For better weight distribution...

BMW are the experts...

Okay, you're probably right.

Not.

It's marketing. Don't be so naive.

It makes the car look like it's got a 3rd party Nissan Skyline kit.

Horrible.

Carbon roof as standard is nice tho.

Why is putting the engine close to the bulkhead marketing?

They did it for a better handling car...

I quite the front-end especially that bonnet bulge. Very expensive though 60K+

i dont like the styling at all, just looks like a subtly styled run of the mill 3 series, despite the performance, in my eyes the m3 varient should look totaly diffrent to the base model, much like the e30 m3 did!!

the bulge is for the engine, its mounted back and it needs to clear the plenum

doesnt look anything like a Soarer

its no more max power than the e30 m3 was in its day.. wide arches, bodykit etc

I'm sure it will look fantastic. The standard E92 coupe looks stunning in the metal - photos don't do it justice.

V8 based on the M5's V10, i heard that these engines shit them selves on a regual basis.

Also with safety regs these days they need alot of clearance between the engine and the bonnet i wouldnt mind betting thats got alot to do with the bulge.

Thing problem is today virtually all new cars look the same, Same grille, bonnet drop backs, coupe's etc etc. Every time I drive into a BMW car park, I get confused to what car is what.

They're churning these things out day in and day out. demand supply and all that crap. Look at the new Audi A5 Complete rip off of the new 3 series.

People today are too fickle "I want a New Car" it's got to have this and that. For F*ck sake you now get air con in an corsa now as standard! You would have had to go back the bank manager for that option on any BMW back in the day.

All in all New cars will never have the same character as their predecessors. The new M3 is a nice looking car, but I'm too stuck in my ways, for me its old school BMW all the way. I will always judge other cars by my E30 and that's that.

"ooh I don't like the bulge.... ooh, it's all marketing". If they gave you the keys and said - here you go, would you go "nah, I'll take e30 M3"?

It's a matter of taste of course, but give it 10-15 years or so, let it age a bit, you'll be singing hymns to its timeless design then :)

And your point is? Over two million E30's were "churned" out. At the end of the day BMW exists to make money. Gone are the days when the engineers designed a car and the accountants simply added a profit on top. BMW had to change to survive.

In my eyes, its a very, very attractive car. The fact its quite subtle is what I like.

Not different enough. Perhaps the fashion is more understatement now. Previous models had something that made the M series really stand out. Perhaps the RS4 has had more impact than BMW would care to admit.

New M3 \/\/ :snigger:

That's what I thought of when I saw it. 1995 Pontiac Grand-Am

Actually, the more you flick between the two, the more you see the differences. BMW have been spot on with their designs, they all grow on you.

My favourite current model is the Z4M Coupe, as above.

That Pontiac is uuuuugly!

I know!!!!! The grille on the new M3 just made the awful image of the Ponty sping to mind, thought you'd all like to see my torment!!

You have to agree the front of the M3 can draw a comparison to the Pontiac though!!!
