e46 key

can this key be opened i want to remove all the black casing......if so how

sure the casing is in two halfs
so just gently prise between the join

prob a chip of some sort in the casing tho for engine management/immob etc

yeh iv tried that daz but it wont open just starts to damage the casing is there any particular method???

It is meant to be a sealed for life key.

In otherwords you try to open you will end up damaging some part of the key

it splits in half, use a very thin razor or knife and prize it open.
inside is a small black code chip that controls the data to the ews system via the dongle on the ignition barrel.

why do you wanna seperate it? i've smashed these things to pieces at work destroying them and they dont seperate easily

need to get the chip out as it interfere's with the alarm on my car which i installed alarm myself.......and i dont

want to damage the key as i need to use it

Hi mate, my brothers got an e46 and he was told that the mileage is clocked up on the key..? dont know if this is true.

im not sure on that....but the chip will remain in the car inside the plastic barrel casing it's so i can trigger remote engine start :D

Yes, the milage is in the key, the sop8, the dash clocks and the ews

the mileage is only stored in the key so that the key can be inserted into the SAM reader @ BMW dealerships. That way, they can then retrieve all the information they need to from the key fob...

Shaz, these keys are inseperable. The only way around your problem is to either:

A) Remove the crap alarm you put on there. It definately wont be as good as a BMW alarm

B) Go to a dealership and ask them to disable/bar the key, which will cost you

C) Speak to a decent auto-electrician (not a cowboy knobhead one) and ask for their advice on the aerial antennae in the key barrel

thanx for all that but it was because i was selling my 330 and the chap who bought it wanted the alarm fitted it was only way i could get the price i wanted but iv sorted and sold car now....gonna get me an X5 :cool:
