Hello everyone my name is Jazz and I was wondering if anyone could help me with a BMW 5Series Diesel secondhand.

Well I need to know the following in a BMW 5series diesel:

• How Many miles to a gallon?
• How Many mils to a full tank?
• What engine sizes do they come in? i.e. 2.0l,2.5l,3.0l
• Which engine size will give you the best miles?
• What are their individual prices?

Please note all the information is asked for secondhand cars only.

& secondly I would like to find out where one can get repossessed BMW cars from? alot tell me its a good and yet cheap and cheerful way of working on a nice bmw

If anybody could please help me with my quires I would be grateful.

With the specific information you are looking for you may do as well as to search for an E39/E60 forum buddy.

I don't know of anywhere that specialises in selling on repo'd BMW's but you could try searching for specialist auction companies. I'm sure undamaged repo's just end up back in the mainstream car market. Maybe something with light accident/stolen recovered damage is what you are after.

I've had the following BMW diesels as company cars over the last few years:

E46 330d M Sport Touring (auto) - averaged 33mpg
E61 525d M Sport Touring (auto) - averaged 32mpg
E61 535d SE Touring (auto) - averaged 28 mpg

All of the current 6 cylinder 3 series and 5 series (325d, 330d, 335d and 525d, 530d and 535d) have the same 3 litre engine in various states of tune. The 335d and 535d have an extra turbo for good measure

Earlier 525d models (like mine) had a 2.5 litre engine (177bhp IIRC); the current one is 204bhp I think, with the 530d @235 bhp and the 535d @ 286 bhp. There's a 520d now that has the same 177bhp has the previuos 525d...

The E46 330d started out with 184bhp, and was upgraded to 204 later in its life...

All in all there's not much between them economy wise IME, so I'd get the biggest/most powerful engine you can afford

Thanks alot guys.... i would like to ask once again about a used 5 series 2.5i or 2.0i used 2005 or 2006 model if anyone could refer me to a good place or any good dealer who works with and sells any of the following models at a good price ? HELP!!!!!

The 520d only went on sale at the end of 2005, so most will be '06 registered I'd have thought. I have no experience of this engine in the 5 series, but based on my experience in the 120d it should have enough power (same as the 'old' 525d), but won't be as refined as the 6 cylinder engines. I will also say that the 120d only returns 42 mpg (for the same kind of use mentioned above) as a manual; knock off 20% for auto and you're at 33/34mpg in a 1 series. In a 5 probably no benefit over any of the other engines from an economy perspective.

If you're talking about the 520i be aware that it was only on sale for the first part of the E60s life - it soon became the 523i, which feels underpowered in day to day use IMO

In terms of where to get them from, pretty much all ex BMW cars end up in the dealer network; BMW Finance sales (BMW Finance/Alphabet leasing) tend to go through BCA AFAIK

cheers peter so are u saying that the bmw 5series 2.5d is not good for fuel consumption but yet is not good for power as well ? i mean im looking for a good 5series for my dad as he wants to step down from his Porsche 911 GT3 RS but the only problem is now we all know he is rich enough which is ok but the fact of the matter is i am the one who is going to get him the bmw 5series and i knwo he wuld like somethiugn powerfull yet fuel afficiant i mean any1 know which is the best to get ?????

In my experience all of the 6 cylinder diesel BMWs give pretty much the same economy/range (though the 535d is marginally worse than the others).

The 525d is reasonably quick, and handles very well, but is probably no more economical than the 530d, and probably uses the same amount of fuel. However, it will also be cheaper than a 530d, so don't discount it - it certainly isn't slow. From memory it gets to 60 in around 8 seconds and has a top speed of 135ish

hmmm 135 is quiet slow for a 2.5d dont you think hmm.... cool but hey its about time my dad steps his game a lil down considering i aint got the money to please him with as much speed that his porsche can give him but yeah that sounds reasonable which i mite just go for any idea where i can pick them up from any used ones because remember i aint rich lol ?

525 tds = 143 BHP unmodified, On average 32MPG Depending on driving style, Full tank Approx 400 -500 MPT.
Had mine 2 years very reliable

Dude if your dads quite wealthy he should go for something like a 535d as it is really poweful with loads of torque.
If he is used to driving a GT3 RS, hes going to want something quite quick.
Something i cant gat my haed round is if your dad is "rich enough" as you put it, Then why is he looking at getting a reposessed BMW ? Surely he could go and buy a brand new one or a nearly new used one.

Does he want an automatic or manual cause i'd recomend the 535d but it only comes in an auto box.
There is a big enough differance between the 535d and the rest of the range it being a twin turbo diesel,The figures work out as 270 bhp and 560 nm of torque in the 535d giving it a 0-60 time of 6.3 seconds which is unbelivable out of a diesel and an auto box.IMO i wouldn't bother with the 520d.The 525d and 530d can both be bought in manual.The 525d does 0-60 in 7.8 seconds and the 530d does 60 in 6.9 with the manual.
