ok, i am an e30 lover through and through but just lately i have been looking at the e36's. not just any e36's though. iv been looking at the 3.0 m3 in its coupe form. i have heard that the 3.2 spits out conrods left right and centure and that the 3.0 is a far more reliable car. anyone had a 3.0 m3 that could shed some light on the subject for me?

Never heard the conrod issue? Ryan (low325cab) has just got a 3.2 evo coupe and it's a hell of a bit of kit.

NEVER heard of the conrod issue... yes, they do have a problem with VANOS units, but 99% of them have been recalled and if it wasnt a recall, then the work is most likely to have been done...
if it says it has a full service history, get the chassis number, and go into any BMW main dealers and ask them for all the info they have on the car. the last dealership it was worked on at would be the best one
theres isnt really a lot in it, between the 3.0 and the 3.2 but if i was to choose, it would be the 3.2 any day. it just has that little bit extra over the 3.0
i've been thinking about going for an Evo Saloon jobby maybe later this year or next year...

i'd walk away from the one advertised.. 148k, aftermarket alloys and 6k!!
check out the trader - you have have your pick of an m3 at about 6-7k.
from being on e36 coupe.co.uk - they seems to prefer the 3.0l than the 3.2l - also the later model had a 6 speed box which is sealed, so if it goes pop its £Â£Ã‚£. the 3.0 uses the same box as a 328 etc.

i cant remember the exact title of it, i think it might be a WRX something or other, but i know it was absolutley rapid!! had cloth seats (barely) manual windows, mirrors, etc and just about had a carpet!!! but was quicker than a ferrari

yeah but they havent got the class like a bmw has, everyone has got a subaru( i could say the same for bmw ) standard........ m3 anyday. the subarus have a turbo.... so its only fair that we should base the comparison on a m3 turbo( ok you will have problems putting the power down) but with a rolling start.....

A good subaru, wrx sti thing, will of course beat an e36 m3 in most directions. But it wont stop you from looking like a cock.
An e36 m3 is a nice car for the money. A rwd car with around 300bhp, and a lovely spec, and they look good also. Although they are dated now, and a bit plasticy. Also when any type of car like this gets to around the 10k, it tends to get in the wrong hands. So many of these are dogs.

I like the e36 M3 and 328i sport a lot.
I have been out in the e36 m3 3.0 and the thing flies. IMO sounded better than the s14 and m20
After E30's i will no doubt move to the e36 side

The conrod issue wason the s54 iirc, there was a recall regarding this. Never heard of this problem on the s52.
Nice cars, theres not alot you can buy with the same performance/spec/quality for the same money at the moment.

I have looked at a 4dr e36 3ltr and fuck me they shift.. I had it twitch on the test drive. They are rapid but tbh for me the fuel consumption and tyre shredding ability is too much so i will have to refrain from it as I will be at it all the time.. breaking the national speed limit in 2nd? now thats dangerous!

You obviously haven't heard one with c/f box and a decent exhaust

An WRX is 2000cc and an m3 evo 3200cc so the turbo is basically bringing it back in line with the m3's extra capacity. Trying to find a good WRX/sti/p1 is also challenging, the amount of wrong jap tat that can be attached to them is shocking.

but kinda cool in a funny way!!! the e36 scared ya!!!!! i would pass out if i had one. would be going down my local tyre place and saying..... need another set on her mate! (what AGAIN!!!! you were only here last week!!!)
the power would be so sweet though... they say you should do something that scares you every day... how about the drive to work? i would be a nervouse wreck all the time...

if i got one, the local ol bill would be on first name terms with me..... heard you ripping up the ringroad again the other night... or it would be.... we advise you to get shot of this car... you are a danger to yourself and others around you. i will tell them that '' i cant help it, the car makes me do it! '' im sure the judge would take that as an excuse when im up for ''un due care and attention, failing to stop at a red light, sp30's and sp40's.

im on my fifth m3 e36 now i've had a 3.0 coupe a 3.2 evo coupe an evo cab an evo coupe ac schnitzer and now a 3.2 evo coupe imola individual or gt2 they have all been reliable and i've never heard of these conrod failures they are not cheap to look after but if you look after them they are great cars. on the motorway they will cruise at a ton whilst still doing 30 mpg but this obviously drops depending how you drive it i was getting 11.1 mpg round the track and i always use super unleaded.
