Wasn't that on Ebay? Looks nice though - the 6 Series is the only BMW that you can fit chrome arches to and get away with it. Manual or Sportomatic?

NEVER EVER fit aftermarket 17 inch wheels to an old 6 Series. Apart from looking revolting and council it'll drive like a water bed, wandering all over the road as well as from magnifying every slightly worn bush in the front end in terrible wheel wobble and uncurable vibrations. Nasty.
What you need are a set of 15 inch E34/E32 rims with 225/60 tyres. They bolt straight on and the car will look 'factory' and drive as it should. It'll drive better on those that in will on the current TRX tyres. You'll pay about £100 for a set of decent BBS with good tyres.

Mmmm... nice, I was running my bosses one for a few months and still have it sat on the driveway.
Nice to drive, quick enough and very very cool looking
Theyre not exactly relaxing to drive on long wet journeys though, the wind noise is bad and the gearbox just loves to shift down mid bend for maximum terror value

andy good advice thanks. they are the metric wheels and tyes. about 170 quid a corner for new tyres. wonder if they are worth much sold as thye are/ could fund some nice new rims. they do look great with 17's but i dont want to ruin the ride as its nice. that said could go 16's

£170 a corner? You're joking! TRX's are £250 each plus VAT! I just sold a set of the M635CSi 415 Metric BBS with two mint TRX GT's and atwo useable old pattern TRX for £200. 16's are okay but it's a job to know which ones. The 16 inch BBS x spokes from the E38 7 Series look okay but you need locating rings for the hubs. I still reckon the old 225/60x15's are the best for ride and handling - the tall sidewalls do these a lot of favours.

No problem - the 6 Series tank is exactly the same as an E28 5 Series. You should be able to get a clean used one for £30 quid. Or go to Euro Car Parts - £77 plus VAT for a new one, but either way give it a good coat of black Hammerite and some Waxoyl before you fit it.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I was doing a bit of digging around to see if anyone else had an E24 to go with their E30, when I found this thread. Agree with you about the wheels - here's my E24:
The whole car cost me the grand total of £460 - but don't be deceived by appearances. Like most 6s it's pretty rotten, a bit of a mongrel, and needs a whole load of work to get it roadworthy again. Have a look at
http://www.neil.nu/cgi-bin/635CSi.cgi for the sorry tale so far.
