So, a Pinto is more powerful and reliable than a 115 bhp M43 is it? It wouldn't be quite so laughable if it wasn't a '97 car which still has a value.
I'd give £50 for that tops. It's ruined.

Perhaps they like the classic sound of clattery Pinto camshafts. A neighbour of mine with a Cortina 2.0 Ghia left his to rattle and smoke away for years, and rarely washed the car (mind you, it was a hideous pea-green colour). Come to think of it, he rarely bothered to tax it either

That model bmw has become a real chav / scrot car in Ireland. Tinted windows etc etc... But that one is in Northern Ireland..... a colony of the UK

so it's not a real Irish car.

i was just saying to my friend the other day how i will never look at another ford. after taking my wheel off a bm and looking at how rusty the bottom ball joint and steering arm nut was, looking at it, taking a deep breath and then proceeded to wipe the rust off as it flaked away by poking it. then once i got a ring spanner on there it un-done like brand new. now if it were the same condition on a ford i wouldnt of stood a chance getting it un-done.

Not so! 205 n/a block was the Sierra 2.0iS and Granada 2.0i and is actually different to the 205 Cosworth block. All the same sort of Pinto wrongness at the end of the day tho.

Managed to blow 2 'WELL BUILT' Pintos last year one thru rev limiter packing up melted the pistons and valves!! other one threw not 1but 3 conrods out through the block! Always thought cosworth n/a 205 block was a bored out pinto 205!

Not sure. But the Pinto is just yesterday's news and they were never that great anyway. Consider that the 1500 bhp Brabham F1 Turbo BMW engines (Nelson Piquet era early eighties) were based on 1600 M10 engines. For these, the bods involved bought several mega mileage 1500 and 1600 blocks from Munich scrapyards out of old 1500/1600 BMW saloons. This is because old blocks are destressed (new blocks always have casting stresses). They raced with about 950-1000 bhp but qualified with over1200 bhp.
It would have shown more than that but BMW's engine dyno wouldn't read any more.
So all these 800 bhp Skylines aren't THAT impressive really.
How's the red iS by the way?

i saw an m50 2.5 powered capri (unfinished, natch) on ebay a while back...spiritual swap? and this reminded me of a little picture i saw years ago (about 18

) in "streetmachine" magazine (remember that?) of a mk4 cortina with BMW badges, quad lights, kidney grilles and so on...but where that is sort of cool and funny, a pinto powered e36 (not even a wanked old flat burgundy h-plater, but a bloody 1997 car) is WRONG WRONG WRONG an abomination and the perpetrator needs to be tied to this creation and dragged up and down a massive cheesegrater for a couple of hours
seriously though, i'd have thought the last person on earth who'd rather have a pinto in a bmw than a bmw engine probably died a long time ago

i'd have put a yank V8 in it

if you're gonna put a wrong engine in, do it right

Hey I remember that old Cortina. Got some pics in the loft of it somewhere.
It was called the Impersonator.
The owner claimed he did it cos he liked the look of the BMWs but couldn't afford one.
