Askign this on behalf of a friend.

He has an E39 530D touring manual.

What is the best way of getting reliable increases in power & torque?
Chipping?

Anyone any knowledge/ experience on what works & what doesn't?

cheers

My dad has a 525d E39 he also wants more. Getting these cars chipped is supposed to transform them.?.

massive gains

ive had a 330d sport and an x5 sport 3.0d

both were remapped

unreal difference
both were weapons when done

make sure its a reputable company and do your homework

both mine improved on mpg too

it really is night and day when they are done

both mine had over 500 nm of torque after and thats the important figure!!!

DO NOT have a box fitted ie a plug in device

these just up the fuel pressure massively

ie bollock as much fuel into cylinder during the time injector is open

massive black smoke as car is overfuelling its tits off

also after a while you will see at back of pump fuel begin to weep from joints due to pressure in system

mapping if done right is about altering the duration of injector opening and when it opens etc

they need to have fuel AND air adjusted so a good burn is obtained

the wife is running round in a merc ML 270 cdi at the minute
i owned it 36 hours b4 i had it mapped

163hp book figure mine showed 162 hp on rollers

after mapping 212 hp with 497 nm of torque

was quite laggy but not anymore
it flies and will kill a petrol 320 ml

that car is doing 29.7 mpg round town and its auto too and she drives it like she stole it

breathe on the throttle and it just picks its legs up
b4 it was quite flat till 2700 rpm

dont even hesitate

find yourself good company and do it
you gets what you pay for so do a bit of digging

even when i gave any of them a footful there is no filling the road with black smoke at all which tells me the mixture is good ie air and fuel

get it done and come back and tell us what you think

hth

Bit off the BMW track but thought I'd give my 2p's worth anyways. My boss recentley had his Audi S3 chipped and can't praise the difference enough. Its gone from 225bhp to 275bhp, reducing the turbo lag and improving fuel economy!!

If your friend has a nice chunk of cash he could take the car to Birds, they do two conversions for the E39 530d - a 231bhp 339ft-lb one and another which produces 220bhp and 325ft-lb. Will cost a fair bit though.

you could have a chat with the guys at www.e-maps.co.uk
or if you guys still speak or know Jayson aka chippeduk, he
could be worth a shout, has rolling road now too
www.chippeduk.com..

Ah! notice the *plug* on the url here, so no, I can't recommend him
to you guys. Sorry for that.

Do give e-maps a call,. they may be able to help at a fraction of the cost

235hp out of these engines is common practice.

Driven a new 535d, what a car, cant imagine the amount of mid range talk in a chipped one. i'd have diesel over petrol without doubt nowa days, apart from m3's and sports cars etc.

I had a chip in my work van, its a 130hp Mercedes Sprinter, got the chip off of my boss, what a difference. It is a plug in one, it just lies to the fuel rail sensor, telling it there is less pressure than there is. A remap would be the best but the plug in one is a quick fix. As for pushing so much out of the ML, just be carefull as the fuel pumps cant handle alot of abuse and neither can the injectors, expensive to fix aswell.

If you need any advice give me a shout in the morning, 01527579345, it realy is straightforward to map decent power from these engines with total reliability.
