My Hartge 3-piece split rims... COMPLETE! (56k beware)

Apologies for talking E36 here, I joined this forum a while ago and put a post up about my car, thought I'd post an update on my wheels!

I'll start at the beginning...

After about 6 months of wheel browsing, I had pretty much set my heart on a set of Sunflower Type II's, after finding a fully refurbed set I got beaten to the purchase... upon talking to the guy that was selling the wheels (mark @ BMautosport) he showed me a set of brand new 17" x 8.5J hartge 3-piece split rims! The second I saw them, they were to be had, I purchased them there and then.

They arrived the following day and it was undoubtably love at first site!

I did a few photoshops of the wheels on my car, I tried various colours and to see the general concencus; black centres came up trumps! A hair drier, mallet, some tools and lots of time later and the wheels were all split.

The centres, inner dishes and centre caps went into the spray shop and got painted gloss black...

Upon rebuilding the wheels they looked like this...

Still absolutely loving them, I decided to take it that little bit further. I ended up selling two of the dishes and coughing up a bit of cash to have some custom made rear dishes made up in Germany (all done through Jeremy @ Justmatz). I absolutely love staggered set ups and needed to have it!

I entrusted them with one of my front dishes as a pattern and was told they'd be around 21 days before I receive the new dishes and my existing dish back!

21 days passed, continued by another 21 days... still set backs were occuring...

In the meantime I had purchased a custom set of new centre badges, these were gloss black with the hartge logo in chrome detailing. Perfectly suited to my new wheels.

After my 3rd set of 21 days I recieved a very apologetic call to say they were on their way! I have been checking the tracking details every 5 minutes since I received them and today was the day my dishes arrived!

I almost skipped my gym session to get home and see them but managed to maintain my patience. About an hour ago I walked in and ripped open the box...

They look so much better than i'd expected, although perhaps alot more polished than the existing dishes (so I may get the existing dishes mirror polished to match).

New 2.5" dish fitted...9.5J

lol, thats the car when is dirty...

This is a picture of it after a clean, although I didn't actually wax it this time (when its waxed its even better!!)...

The above was my car when it was all done up, I decided I didn't like it and sold just about everything (lights, spoiler, wheels, suspension, bumpers, grills). It's being rebuilt now to a much more OEM but far classier spec with alot of fine one-off details.

Generally when cleaning I'll use meguirs shampoo, an aqua blade to remove the body of water on the car, a meguirs car towel to dry properly, autoglym super resin polish, meguirs scratch X and then meguirs gold class wax. I do this regularly though, most weeks - although not for a couple of weeks recently due to spending most of my time down the beach.

The car atm is sat on coilovers... with this stance...

It had this front end bodywork carried out last month...

Should all be finished in a month or so, wheels/bodywork etc!

Very nice.

Where did you get the centre badges? I'm after a black set for my Hartge split rims.

A sticker production company. Effectively they are just a glossed sticker that goes into the recess for the centre badge.

I initially tried to place them over the original badges, but as these are domed it was a no go issue.

He basically took the Hartge outline and reproduced it, making this section chrome and the remainder black.

I'll see about getting a close up photo if you want, also - there is a sticker company round the corner from my house, if you want a price I could always drop in and get him to price up a set of 4 identical to mine.

Let me know mate,

Chris.

Ahh, I thought you'd found a source of genuine domed ones.

Part of my job is artwork for stickers so I'll get my usual company to knock me a batch up.

Mucho thanks for the offer though. 8)

Nah mate, don't think they ever did a set of blacks! I sold my original silvers to a local guy for £15 as he made out he needed them. I then saw him selling them on ebay, he made like 200% profit... ba57ard :-x lol
