Right, so amongst everything else going on, I've also acquired a 2002 E46 325ti compact, manual!
Wasn't looking for one, but it was going too cheap

Anyway, I was guessing from the start that the rocker gasket was leaking - could smell a little oil burning when hot and standing in traffic.... however.... I wasn't quite expecting this level of oil consumption!!!
It's not leaking, as such - no drips, mess on the drive, etc, but it is using/losing a hell of a lot!!! Like litres & litres!!!
Drives absolutely perfect apart from that though!!!

Took it to the workshop I use, (a lot at the moment!) and they have confirmed the rocker gasket leak, but said it's been caused by the breather (CCV) being knackered - basically said the whole lot needs replacing and prob isn't worth paying them to do at £550!!! (pretty much what I paid for the whole car!!!)
And I've read online it's an all dayer for a distinctly average DIYer, so I'll never get round to it!!!

I'm basically wondering, (though assuming there aren't), if there are any bodges, tricks, etc for reducing the oil consumption???

This car was prob only ever going to be around for 6 months to a year - but I actually really enjoy driving it!!! Hate the looks, but from the inside it's quite nice, (though it really wants an LSD!). Was thinking about keeping it a bit longer until this popped up!!!

If there's no tricks to stop it drinking as much oil, I'll prob abuse it for a few months, stick 12 months on it and stick it on ebay to get my money back!!!

I have one and it drinks oil at a rate of knots, they all seem to. I did the CCV and found the old one wasn't blocked. It made zero difference to consumption. Job took a few hours as it's a fiddle to get to. Nothing hard about the job, just a fiddly job requiring ting hands.
Have a look on YouTube for videos on how to do it and search e46 or m54 oil consumption.

Def won't be paying to have it done then, if it might not even help it's drinking habit!!!
I'll never get round to doing it myself, so I'll prob smoke about in it for a bit, stick a new ticket on it in 6 months time and stick it on ebay or something!!!
