Are these turds starting to rise in value?
Is the Tupperware worth anything? I may remove my kit that's all.

M535i are going up in price
but the non-535 market is dead, it's virtually zero. I've been watching the same stuff on ebay for months, some since last year.

Was looking at a M535i yesterday on ebay with a dogleg gearbox and only 3 previous owners from new for 3.5K.

really, got a link mate ?
Am going to get an e28 next, no rush but ideally a 535i dogleg would be nice....I also like the appeal of a tidy 525e

I would like a M535i one day too.
Dogleg gearbox is the best one to go for IMO and read on another forum that they stay neck and neck with an M5 upto 130mph by which time they run out of gears/ revs to keep pace (due to close ratio gearbox).

Although I like that car, everything about the advert has alarm bells ringings. From the many magic trees dangling down to the users name....it all spells....AVOID
However, the car looks ok and has a lot of equipment for the price.
Weldfest required !

Yeh I came to the same conclusion yesterday regarding the car being a turd and seller doesn't give a good impression either however the car is still worth that in parts of it was to go wrong?

yer i agree, prob worth something close in parts.
Maybe I'm getting old but I can't help prefering that Swiss 520i, for the OEM appeal.

That's bollocks. An M5 will crucify an old M30 turd no matter what gearbox it has - 286 bhp versus a shade over 210 if you're lucky. An M5 does 0-100 in a bit over 15 second whereas the M535i is lucky to do it un much under 20. What's your money on?
The dogleg gearbox is also bloody horrible. Unless is absolutely perfect you'll soon tire of shifting from third back to second rather than fourth - they are ideal for left hand drive where you are pushing the lever away from you with your right hand rather than 'pulling' it with your left. The close ratio box has a use in something high revving like an M3 but the old M30 Donkey has spent it's load by 5500 rpm and is an engine laden with low down grunt. The overdrive box is far, far better from every point of view in this application - one reason why the M5 has an H pattern overdrive gearbox.

It's what I've read here:

Edit:
Will keep pace til 100mph according one of them.

It's bullshit. M535i owners love to think their cars are 'almost as fast as an M5'.
I liked this post:
" The regular manual pulled an indicated 157mph on a looooooooooooong road (again so ive been told) and the Auto would do 150 in third then you lifted off the kick down button and then when it got to an idicated 152 you pressed the pedal all the way down and on an even loooooooooooooonger road it would eventually max at an indicated 155mph".
Yes. Righto mate. The fastest any road test managed on a new (and run in) press car was 140 mph. The M5 was hard pushed to do anything over 150. That's rubbish aerodynamics for you.

I saw that and had nasty thoughts of molesting it with an S62 and split rims.
But that would be a bit criminal.

I stand corrected Andyboy. What you have said in regards to rubbish aerodynamics and close ratio gearbox with M30 makes logical sense when one thinks about it.
I was unfortunately lead to believe there wasnt much difference between M5 vd M535i (Dogleg) having read that thread many moons ago

I have been on track in my M535i with an M5 and driven both and as Andy says that is complete bullcrap. Mine was doing a GPS 135 buy the end of the Marham straight and mine is in reasonable fettle. The M5 was going off the clock nearly in comparison and just has more go everywhere and loves to rev, the M30 has nice low down grunt but runs out of puff over 5K rpm.
I must admit though whilst the gearchange is not very nice, I have had both boxes in mine and it does liven up the old girl with the dogleg, I really dislike the overdrive box ratios. I still have both though and am wondering if a 3.64 LSD from a 635i would be a better option and keep the O/D box (if I could find one !).

I'm in a bad way for a '28 tbh. An Alpina b9 or B10 would be just the ticket!
What happened to WTO 96Y Andy? I think that was the reg....

WTO50Y. God knows, last seen 6-7 years ago.
To think I bought it of Wilson 10 years ago this month for £2500, a smart MOT'd up and running B9 with all the right bits. Of course it wasn't quite as good as it looked due to a comedy rear wing/boot floor repair in the distant past.

Wasn't the back half arctic blue ?

No. The rear OS wing and back panel was from a Agate green car and the boot floor was a bit rinky. It had been welded in in a sound but somewhat untidy fashion. Nothing that couldn't have been tidied up. The rest of the shell was remarkably good with perfect doors, wings, floors etc. When the gold leaf Alpina stripes were on it looked tremendous.
WTO50Y was the first Sytner built Alpina as well, built from a Henna red 528i before any of the press cars were built up.

Weirdly, having been keeping an eye out for a while, I have just acquired a 3.64 LSD from a late highline... so I have some options. Will try it with the 265/6 and see how it is and go back to the 265/5 and 3.07 if I don't like it. I am a little worried that 1st and 2nd will be too short, but we will see.
