Thoughts? Are they as fragile as people say?
A work colleague just got one and I have go say, they have grown on me.

I thought as much when I seen how little they are selling for. Anything he should watch out for, other than the gearbox?

E65/66 and W220 S-Class are both selling for pennies, because they were initially VERY expensive cars at launch, so obviously maintenance is pricy as well.
So you might buy one for cheap and it's A LOT of a car for the money, but when something goes, it won't be a 50 quid part from EuroCarParts...
Plenty of horror stories on the gearboxes of the 7s and the air suspension on those Mercs.

I'd have the W220 Merc tbh. The 2005 onwards S Class is coming right down in price too.

If you want reliable and affordable (to a certain degree) luxury car, then E38 or the W140 would be a much better choice.
Yes, they're older, but that was the golden age for German cars...They are built like tanks.

My inked up neighbour had a e38 "Alpina", it ruined them for me.
If I was in the market for some council frag it would be this... Reg makes it cooler

That's expensive for an un MoT'd S Type,mine was nearly half that with 6 months ticket!
