The writer in the story is of course based on Roald Dahl himself, who drove an e23 for many years and loved it like one of his own children. It sold on eBay about 3 or 4 years ago and was restored and auctioned off for charity..

Official top speed of the 733i was actually 127mph, so that must have been a tweaked one.

His was a 735i so that may be where the confusion crept in...

Just realised the driver is the Australian actor Rod Taylor who was in a lot of good films - died in January.
You can see the reg in the 3rd photo. Showing as not being taxed or SORN since 2010
