rattle problem after changing gear linkages

Have a little problem, just spent the afternoon changing the shifter bushes, the connector on the shift rod part of the box with the little sponge and the upper assembly including the whole arm etc rear bush seemed fairly fine with very little play so didn't bother,
Anyway it's all in, however it's still pretty floppy which is annoying, and two which is the main problem the gearstick rattles about but only in second? All other gears are fine including reverse,
Everything went on as.it was, the stupid clip on the gearbox is secure that bush is new obviously....
And top it off. I broke the jack!
