E30 Zone

hi just a quick question has anyone done a v8 conversion on a e36 on here or know off anyone who has ? my brother is selling his e38 740 and i was just wondering on a possible conversion so any information on parts, custom parts etc would be required or if threes no point cheers

Its a BIG mission, bespoke sump, manifolds and manual conversion bits will be £££££££££££££

They did

Biggest problem is sump

Lots of 'european' spec v8 swaps but all the engines sit really high or have mega bodged sub frames

I have still never seen one that has been done even remotely well for track let alone driving on the road

Although the V8 is cool, a m3 does the same job.....

Sounds like a lot of effort for less power than one of the S50 lumps which were designed for the e36 and bolt straight in...

Mind you, there are quite a few in the states with LS* engines which I would imagine are quite fun.

The alpina effort with the 4.6 V8 however is a quicker car in every situation to the S50 cars with more HP and a whopping torque advantage

I'd save and buy one of these rather than convert something

The s50s are a hugely capable engine and I think
People forget how quick they can actually be

I have a m60 in my e30, it's great and was fairly cheap but I really don't see the point in putting a v8 in a e36 when the s motors are so good and basically do the same job

The ls motors however are completely differant, sikky may do a conversion as I know they do it for an e30. Genuine bolt on performances, reliability and cost effectiveness

Not a huge task I would say - custom manifold, but some say X5 4.6 one fits. Engine mounts can be bought online. Sump mod - images are available online from people who have done it, so no inventing there. I think its amazing swap, check some video`s on YouTube - mind blowing. Many people have done it.

Alpina made 45 alterations in the engine bay to get a V8 to fit, a
lot of work went into it, which is why in '97 a B8 was nearly twice
the price of an M3 Evo.



333 BHP (but that's normally conservative) 495 NM
0-100 KMH 5.6 (with 2.93 diff)
280 KMH (although I've had TomTom registered 292 in mine)
15-25 MPG (I generally get between 20/22)

There are currently 4 for sale in Germany, between €17k-€50k

Yes, that's correct, because there is no room for the steering down
the right side of the engine, but there are still several B8's in the UK, LHD doesn't put people off great cars, just like E30 M3

I know of one locally and I'm sure you know whose that is too! I have a different username on The Alpina Register, being an ex-owner of two and hopefully/maybe one again sometime soon.
