after selling my e30 last year i ended up with a e36 m3 evo coupe .
the car is a bit rough around the bodywork but running gear is good , i keep thinking about swapping everything over to a touring.
has anyone built one or know of one that has been built and wot if any problems were there ?

I know quite a few have been built, but I don't know any specific details.

I have read that it's easier if you start with a 6 cylinder touring, although I'm not sure why, I'd have thought if you have got a complete donor car then you'd just be able to swap everything over.

The only thing bodywise i would suggest would be to get a set of m3 reinforcement plates welded in where the rear subframe bolts to the floor. M3s were the only e36s to get them as standard.

It's been done numerous times I expect. I know of two in the south west.
Everything should just be a bolt in job, I wouldn't expect any issues considering you're starting with a complete donor. Just don't get rid of the 2dr until you're sure you've got everything out!

I'd definitely do it, tourings are much cooler than saloons/coupes and an M3 powered one with the M3 suspension/brakes etc would surprise a few people winkeye

One of the ones I've seen is a complete sleeper - 318i badge and even a modded backbox to only show 1 tailpipe. The only exterior mod is the M3 wheels.

6 pot touring help with the wiring looms at a guess? or close to the m3's spec with traction, bigger rear brakes maybe?

thanks to you all for the info .
i'm not worried about the brakes ect as I have it all on the m3
one thing I did think of was getting the oil temp gauge to work as I think it was only m3 that had it .

M3 dash would be installed in the tourer.

Do you wan a cheap touring shell, minus running gear?
