If theres any bmw techs on here that can give me and mate a hand?
He has a 2ltr petrol and cuts out whilst driving....he then trys to start it again and turns over fine but wont start, starts fine in the mornings....also engine managment light comes on when cuts out.
I know its abit vague but if any one has had the same probs or if it is a comman problem someone can point me in the right direction where to look?

Thanks

I assume it is a valvetronic turd ? You need to read the fault codes before you start changing bits. The crank sensor is a favourite and a particularly pleasant job :(

Dont know what a valvetronic is pete, all i know is its an s plate 2.0 petrol....

Yeah we thought we would have to get a fault reader on it but thought we might find something easy and solveable before hand....

Thanks pete....

Valvetronic is the four cylinder disaster fitted to the 318i from late 2001. It's s very poor engine with multiple problems.

assuming nothing concrete came back on a diagnostic put a new ignition switch on there, you'll be amazed how many gremlins this can cure.

I stress the word NEW, no recoding required , easy 1 hour DIY affair.
