But another picked up the week before has cracked or is cracking all the way along the block bottom bit of the screen

I'm not against sorting it as i have a spare genuine screen from my old 328 but time is a bit of an issue as its MOT time early april. I've no "spare" car to drive at the moment

I'm fairly if the chip is smaller than 10mm it should still pass.

I also had a crack along the bottom of the screen on my E36, was probably 8" from the scuttle to the A pillar and my mot tester passed it.

the chip is borderline for 10mm i'd say maybe 12

Is the chip within the swept area of the wipers when on

Its all about the 'swept area' If the crack is within the wiper sweep it is a fail. Chips are a bit more discretionary but there are specs of what is permissible and what is not.

Chip should be an easy pass, although in the swept area it's up in the sunstrip section so well out of the normal vision area.

Strictly speaking 'Band A' is a 290mm wide vertical strip centred in the middle of the steering wheel and it's top and bottom edges defined by the swept area, and damage more than 10mm diameter can be a reason for a fail.

It looks to me like the chip is far enough over to be out of band A

The crack is trickier, the visible bit is so close to the black band I would hope a tester would use their common sense and realise it doesnt impede your vision, but strictly speaking I think anything over 40mm is a fail, but there's a big difference between a golfball hit and a single thin crack!
