I like it but the colour coded headlining is overkill for me.

awsome, thats right on the money for me. I'm not a great fan of the e92/3 cars myself. I think the saloons and tourings looked much better.

ITs the otherway round now i think

Agree with that 100%.

This is one of a very few BMWs I've liked straight away, most are growers and only really start to look good once an M-Tech version comes out.

so they say, what a load of sh!te a 4 series ffs?! Forgetting their roots i think - this isn't like having to adopt turbos and other such things to keep pace with the market its pure up their own arse thinking imo

Beautiful BMW. Shame to lose the name of the 3 Series Coupe lineage.

I hope they serious think about the M3 name as is so iconic and reverred and do not do anything stupid.

Maybe they should drop the M3 name call the new one the 'M4'. Then the M3 will always be reverred as high- revving naturally aspirated RWD; LSD M 2- door saloons or Coupes of years gone by ....

So not building any M3 saloons or M3 Tourings .... Highly unlikely though

+1 the iconic model ranges of the 60s and 70s established BMW's reputation. Audi would love to have a heritage like that, instead of just a bunch of re-badged Polos and Passats :?

I would say the E21 and E30 are what really transformed BMW reputation into producing small compact sporty RWD saloons ....

Also include 2002 prior to E21

E9, E24, and the 5 and 7 Series just filled the gaps in different segments of the market
The 3 Series and its predecessors (2002 model) are BMW's bread and butter and presumably generates enough profit to venture into other territories .... M3, M5, M6, 8 Series, Z1, Z3, Z8, X5, 1 Series, X3, X6, X1 and presumably the FWD BMW and BMW eventually want to fill every other segment and presumably world domination .... BMW is not the classy executive much rarer sight it was in the 1980s before so many were produced and before depreciation took its toll and every Essex boy, chav, Asian, wannabe terrorist, had one too ....

I can only imagine what it must have been like to have own and drive a new E30 325i Sport in the 1980s ....

But that 4 Series Coupe is defo a looker ....

So they take the 3 badge off, put a 4 on it and call it a new car?? It's nice but some retarded pr1ck at BMW is getting paid fair too much for some proper balls out trolling.

its all profit and balls to the rest. Diluting of the brand on its core model range. The bread and butter range. The range that made the company what it is today. e30,e36,e46,e90 All the X model sh!te to satisfy the vulgar Arabs and russians etc has been going on for a while.

Exactly what they will call the M3 is anyones guess? Its an Epic Fail.

Looks big and bulky with all that means for handling to me. They have been going this way for a long time and its not in the interests of driver involvement.

I could see this backfiring for bmw. They may end up cannibalising their existing customer base.

but I'm sure wiser better educated BMW employee's have done a power point presentation to disprove this!

I personally like the 4 series but for my money it would still be the M5 8)

Although the fake engine noise carry on is rather off putting

The BMW E30 interior in terms of layout and design IMO is one of the nicest interiors ever

progression I think it's called. At the end of the day they need to capture as much of the market as possible. The two series won't be far behind.

On another note, I think it looks sexy. Got that 6 stance with 3 agility look if you can see where im comming from.

No one really gives a fook about driver involvement, baring in mind most drives involve spending time nose to tail in traffic. It's all about style and comfort.

Most old cars that require driver involvement, do so because they're pigs to drive. Modern cars make it effortless, which fits in with our culture of continually making things easier for ourselves.

Unsprung weight is not high on the agenda of the average car buyer mate.

I'm not too sure about those front and rear bumpers. Not keen on the enormous end vents and narrowing in the middle. All looks a bit angular for my tastes.

Rest of its nice though. :)

Edit: it reminds me of when young kids hook their little fingers into their cheeks and pull faces. If that makes sense.

you are miles off here, theres plenty of people who's work commute isn't sitting in traffic, and there for how the car drives is very much relevent

How it drives and driver involvement are two different entities. More involvement = more work, which most don't want. 3 series has been company car fodder for decades. Company car drivers rarely give a f*ck and just want something that'll keep them comfy as they undertake their annual moon miles.

The paradigm of the long open twist empty road is the preserve of the ad campaign now.

The wing detail is really tacky, the rest it not bad looking but why call it a 4 series

From what i understand, the reasoning behind the 4 series is to distance the coupe and convertible as more upmarket models from the saloon and touring 3 series much like in the way of the 5 and 6 series.

Also, one of the 3 series biggest rivals, the Audi A4 now has a coupe and convertible model in its range called......

....the A5.
