Relative Humidity

I have bought a portable dehumidifier for the garage of my M3 CS and was wondering what is the optimal relative humidity for storing in a garage :-) ?

The dial on the humidifier ranges from 80% relative humidity to 35% relative humidity (much drier air)

Thanks very much :-)

Wouldn't it be easier to use a car capsule?

Set the dehumidifier RH to 50% .... Below 60% prevents bare metal corrosion .... Below 40% leather begins to crack .... :-)

Has a humidistat so switches on and off to maintain a regulated RH level

The one I bought is made by British company called EcoAir ....

How air tight is your garage - if it's anything like mine, then not very..! I can see this working in a sealed room, but in a drafty(?) garage...I don't know. :D

Is not totally air tight but the humidistat will turn it on and off to maintain desired RH.

I set it around 50% based on the hyperlink above.

By the way is there much salt or grit on the roads at the moment :-) ?

Because I am planning my first ever road trip for my 30th birthday and I think I will
End doing maybe 600 miles in 2 days .... Planning to go near Yorkshire as based on a Google search some of the roads are good there :-) ?

You've got a humidifier for a garage which holds an M3 CS? I'm speechless...

If the Garage is not Air tight, the humidifier will keep working, as it will be drawing moisture from the outside constantly.

We use humidifiers when we want plaster to dry overnight, but have to make sure the whole room is airtight.

You are right is not totally air tight hence I have to keep emptying the container regularly.

Till I figure out how to connect the adaptor Hose thing and see how can I ensure continual drainage.

Works intermiddatently to maintain desired RH

As for what CS stands for I really not sure myself because ....

CSL = Coupe Sports Lightweight
CS = Coupe Sports or possibly Club Sport (which is a similar to E46 330Ci Coupe Club Sport)

In the USA 'M3 CS' were pretty much the same as the M3 Competition Package (ZCP)
Why on earth BMW decided on the word Competition is beyond me as these are road cars and have nothing to do with race cars and in stock form are not ideal for track use without brakes upgrade and subframe reinforcement (also include the M3 CSL in that as they share same brakes as CS)

Biggest improvement is supposed to be CSL steering rack which in the CS
That is what some owners have said.
Plenty of owners have had the regular M3 and reckon the CS as the best all round one.

I have to say feels very direct.

The CSL is the proper one to have and the CS is just a marketing thing isn't it? I see it as the same between an M3 and a Sport

CSL stand for Coupe Sport Lightweight doesn't it?
CS stands for Corporate Salesploy or Cheap Sportyversion

:)

I think you're missing Ravs point. Connecting the hose so it can drain outside will do nothing other than stopping you from having to empty the tank.
If the garage isn't sealed enough, it will be trying to dry all the moisture drawn in from outside, it will never stop and is why you need to empty the tank regularly.

The car capsules with just a fan only circulate the air, which isn't a bad thing, but if the air is damp in the first place it will do nothing. That's the point in the expensive car domes/bubbles etc etc which have inbuilt dehumidifiers.

This was my point, exactly. If it's not airtight, then the unit will run constantly, so effectively no point in having it as you are tyring to dehumidify the earth...! If it's running constantly, then your electricity bill will soon make you think twice about using the humidifier. I would seriously consider sealing the garage, if you can.

Flexible rubber strips around doors as heavy-duty draught excluders, double glazed windows (or fit secondary double glazing?) expanding foam to fill other gaps? Would help I'd imagine and be pretty cheap fix. Obviously depends on what condition your garage is in!

Post up some pics of your garage :thumb:

I see I was thinking about a capsule but is expensive; and I imagine hassle taking a car in and out; and kinda looks like I got OCD or something using for a 6 year old BMW

Dehumidifier definetely the cheaper option
Works intetmittedently so definetely helping the air plus I think dehumidified air kind of feels different

I am sure all my neighbours think I am gay. Joke by the way.

Garage Definetelt needs improving. I know looks anal to some people on here but when I was doing my A levels the E46 M3 Coupe was just launched and I remember creaming myself over the road test. Plus took me ages to find what I wanted. I had to compromise on the colour but I do not see colour as too big a deal. Plus there are not many around.

On a serious note Soni, you will have to stop knocking one out in the garage. Dehumidifiers are solely for removing moisture from the air, jizz plays hell with the filters etc ! :)
