Hey folks, i have a 95 e36 318is coupe and have a question about steering wheels...

Something about mine doesn't seem right.

This is the wheel in my car... Is this the right wheel??

When i turn the wheel sometimes it makes a noise as if a spring is twisting tight and won't return to its previous position upon letting go of the wheel.

Looks fine to me. Had the same wheel in both my 1996 316 compact and 1996 evo saloon.

Sounds like the slip ring behind the wheel is knackered though.

It's the standard SRS airbag wheel, and it's vile. Get it swapped for an M Technic airbag wheel (about £60-70 for a tidy one) or a non airbag early M Tech 2 non airbag wheel.

yeh i'm not a massive fan of it tbh... in the process of revamping the interior as previous owner has a god awful gearknow.... and ebay "mtec innit" gear gaitor, handbrake gaitor and arm rest :(

i'll get a wip thread up though like my old e30.... it may not be liked :/

There is also a bearing in the steering column head that gets noisy - could be that
