E30 Zone

Looking at getting one of these and just wondered if anyone has any experience of them. They have come down a bit now and I have seen a couple of 335i coupes within budget
I know the diesels are supposed to be good but its the petrol one I am more interested in.
Also is the Idrive a deal breaker?

^^ thats a great video.. And me personally, having the money, id pick between a 135i and E46 m3... Iv driven all the 135, 335 and m3... The m3 was a great drive due to handling and the engine sounds epic!

But between the 135 & 335 its a close call... If i were u, id test drive both.

Both great cars, but the 135 is still a tad bit expensive

IMO 335i m sport is a great car!

I was thinking the M3 was old (2002) in that particular video so may have lost some bhp and the handling not up to scratch hence why it was slower in some of the times?

Does the M3 sound the best out of all of them?

As per the video (i never driven 135i or 335i so cannot comment about driving them) but it seems the 135/335 have "lazier" engines in they dont need to be wrung so hard compared to the M3 at 8000rpm.

In terms of looks and interior i think the M3 wins hands down.

Bear in mind they have facelifted the 135/335 engine recently if a newer one is in your budget.

I been in one of my friend's early E92 335i as a passenger and to be honest i just thought it felt smooth/refined but did not feel really fast just "swift" maybe like a GT character.

They are quite fast, i went up against one this year at the pod.
He got 13.7 @ 101mph, his time is on the left

And I dislike modern cars in general.

the swift feeling is nice. And thats what bmw had in mind when those engines.. The reason they feel swift is that there is no turbo lag. And the power delievery is all the way to redline... But end of, an M3 is an M3!

Thanks for the replies. I dont like the 1 series so it would be an 2006/2007 335 or an 2005/6 E46 M3.
I like the convertible 335 as it has the hardtop its cheaper to insure and supposed to be good on fuel but its not an M3.
I think I need to drive both and make up my mind, but just wondered if there were any horror stories about the 335.

My brother in law, who lives in Amsterdam, chose a new 335 convertible over a 325/ 330 mainly because of the 2 big exhausts !

I read somewhere the convertibles have poorer handling than the Coupes and the new hardtop convertibles can suffer waterleaks? However, they do have plastic front wings to reduce mass and help prevent rusting and maybe even lower the centre of gravity.

As it has been mentioned a M3 IS a M3. A 335i just does not belong in the same uber tier.

However, for the money you are spoilt for choice depending on what you want:
E46 M3, E92 335i, E30 325i Sport, E30 325i Cabroilet, E36 M3 Evolution, E34 M5 LE, E39 M5............or even a CLK/CL 55 AMG

So you add weight up top and remove it lower down to lower the centre of gravity now do you?!

Yeah good point i did not think that one through.

have a look on e90post.com there is tons of info on there. i just got a e91 325i and wished id had the money for a 335d. more power and economy. love the car but not the fuel bill. the 335i will be bad on fuel. like 15mpg.

i cant afford to drive as i would normally drive so it wouldnt matter if i had 500bhp. could you?
if you can then go for it.

i think they are good enough to be talked about in the same sentance as the m power cars. pretty close performance but without the "M" tax

Hi I dont use the car that much so not to bothered about the cost of fuel.
I do like the E46 M3 Cab's but I keep getting drawn to the newer 335's.
There doesn't seem to be that many 335's for sale at the moment. Dont spose you know what year they changed to a single turbo?

If you see the hyperlink above in the "real world" there probably is not much difference between a standard BMW E46 M3 Coupe/CS and a standard BMW E92 335i Coupe.

The 335i can be re-chipped to produce alot more power because it has a turbo charger i believe.

The facelift/new 335i engine came in 2010 i think 10/60 plate onwards.

The earliest models should be 56/07 plate.

A remap on a 335i can result in 400bhp! Just a remap!

U can get 335i's in touring, saloon, coupe and convertible.. A great car to drive, sounds nice, and the saying pulls likr a train comes to mind!

i love the 335s they kick ass!! in all shapes.....
