E92 M3

Ok got a mate who has just been made a partner is a law firm, want to change his E46 Convertible, he is thinking of either an E92 M3 or a porsche Cayman but can't decide what to get (either buying new or upto about 18months old).
He doesn't drive fast, will never use either car to anywhere near its potential, he drives from work to Office, Office to Court and occasionally into london and Bristol (from Swindon)
I can't be much help as both are fantastic cars in their own right, M3 is extrememly quick and comfy, pretty much more power than you can actually use on the road, then the Cayman is a great handling car, very forgiving.
Help...... (as i will probably be going car shopping with him)

What an utterly pointless purchase if he doesn't actually drive the fooking thing properly.
320d with a sport kit would suit him better.

I would say tell him to keep what he has got as no doubt he'll be having to make financial contributions to the firm and the future is a little bleak for personal injuiry lawyers with big changes around the corner

They are not just personal injury lawyers, they do commerical and criminal law, my mate is a litigator for them on the commercial and personal law side, he is a partner but not an equity partner yet. He is 26 and started with the company 2 years ago, already a partner, he is aiming to be an equity partner within the next 10 years.
As a partner and having a decent income now he is changing to one of the mentioned cars and asked for my opinion and help. all i can think of is the M3 as he won't use the handling of the Cayman and wouldn't really suit him. However the M3 does seem to be a waste too, i did suggest the E92 335d coupe, better MPG and still pretty quick, driven one and they are good cars but if me goes BMW he is adamant he is going M3 and since he buying upto 18mths old it means an E92 M3.

Well, you're the expert. No doubt you've driven both cars extensively etc etc etc.
Another utterly pointless bullshit thread.

Not driven a Cayman, trying to figure out what fellow zoners would choose, the E92 M3 or the Cayman, baring in mind its use, or rather lack of use.

Seen as he's never going to drive either properly (like most people who can afford these cars) It's not really a case of which is technically better, its got to come down to which he thinks looks best in the office car park.
Personally I'd go with the m3, have never liked the caymen

range rover would suit him
anyway here is story of german chap who had lots of money to spend. he could have bought an M5 or an M3 (e39 e46 flavour) or even a porka or a Ferrari to smoke around in. he was going to use the car to see clients/customers etc but if he pulled up in somthing flash they's think he was making too much money and they'd expect better deals from him.
the guy being a smart intelligent person used his noodle and went to see another german guy called herbert and got him self an H50. nice and subtle, looked like a 320i coupe but in reality it was supercar in a sober suit with nice wheels an oval exhaust pipe.
why would some one want an M3 if they are not going to use it, and as you say he drives slowly everywhere, and he wont even do a track day ? they just want to be flash. its true what they say, well kind of. BMW's were driven by wankers, now they are driven by flash cun7s lol
ok he has the coin to buy a nice m3, but if he had a brain he'd buy a far more sensible car but option it up through the individual program bmw offer, with proper auto box if he's driving in london where its congested 24/7.

Or 50 auto 320i moredoors in a range of colours to suit his mood
Who on earth spends 45K on a car unless it is a surefire investment?

Personally I would go for a nice 360
Make sure it is a GLT though, the extra torque of the 2.0 'Douvrin' donk really makes a difference over the lesser variants

no , you make no sence
there is no car you can buy for 45k, use every day that will not depreciate
but you can buy several cars at 45k, store and do minimal mileage that will appreciate.

nice cars at 'bay tree holdings' if you google it. My friend Chris, he delivers up and down the country on a low loader too. Top gent, if you want someone to be flash at that sort of price tag i think the 6 series is the way forward these days wearing the bmw badge, but bonkers is m3 / m5 territory. Get a v10 m5 - its a surefire

win.
