Right guys after selling both my e30 and bike today to put money into my business I have bit of cash to get me a another motor. It has to be something newer and must be able to fit the family in and do 170 mile trips with ease and comfort but look good without changing too much. I,ve had an e34 which was too old again and a few e36's. Toying with the idea of a big 7 series just for comfort, not bothered bout mpg really just space and drivability. Any ideas??

avoid the 728i, they have a few specific parts which cost ££££ like the fuel tank
i'd look into getting an e39 or even an e46 touring, i'll be putting mine up for sale in a few weeks and its with in your budget

E39 sucks... 2k will buy a dog , if i had a 2k budget i would be looking for a 525i e34 or 328i E36 with history , that will do the job perfectly , does it have to be newer?

i wouldnt say e39's suck. you can buy an decent pre facelift for 2k.

the 2 above are just over budget and depending on how they drive would seem worth investigating
e34's look old now. 2 k is lot to pay for an e34 which is just very old 5.
e46's can be a nice place to be, i've had mine for about a year. plenty of space and light, nice to drive and to be in. its only a 318i SE with some options, everything works as it should, decent mpg, cheap to insure and will sit on the motorway comfortable a 80mph
e36's, well for 2k it has to be a mint one with all the options. again a nice place to be.
but the e46's feel much more modern

Both of them are 520's £500 over budget and they are shit !
e46's are a lot better, I agree but to be fair 2k doesn't get you a decent one

like every car there will be some give in the price, but its just an example of whats available
but for 2 grand, you will not get a high spec car thats been properly looked after. it will be either lower spec or be a dog.
as for e46's, 2k will buy you an X reg 318i se touring, working AC/climate, long MOT, 4 months tax, lots of history with some recent bills for a new clutch/starter/maf/cps etc
strong engine, uses no oil or water and in very good condition
fuck it, who cares. the e38 will be a mistake though.

2 grand can buy a stunning E39. A mate of mine just sold a lovely 1999 V 535i Auto with 99k, FSH, black leather and 17's for about 1800 quid. It had new brakes all round and the timing chain tensioners done. It was silver, and unmarked.
Prefacelift cloth 520i's are sub 1000 quid shitters, they're just minicabs.

a well spec'd pre facelift will be nearer the 2k mark like your friends.
nice e39's seem to hold their money and are hard to come by.

I know of a superb early 540i manual that would be within or close to your budget. PM for details if interested.
Style 32s, Alpina spoiler, well maintained and drives beautifully.

There is what looks like a very nice boston green pre facelift E39 523i manual in this month's TBMW magazine. I'd go E39.
Also I bought my last two E36 328i SEs for £1800 a piece. The black one with 55k, the green one with 82k. Neither needed more than 300-400 spending to make them perfect. Here they are.

Cos you put a / in your code. / means end so [img]means%20start%20and[/img] means end code if that makes sense. Take out the / at the first one and it should work.

Yeah I,ve been looking at the e36 323 sport tourings but seem to hold their price well. It's gotta be a six pot or bigger.

£2k id go for E46 or E39! You would get a nice 323 or 328 E46 or a 528 or 535 on a E39!

Because you are linking from flickr. You need to click on "share this " in the top left of the photo, then "Grab the HTML/BBCode", then choose bbcode, select an image size, copy and paste onto here.
