From what used to be the car that inspired me to rat my golf, has now become somewhat of a contradiction of what it once was.
What made it cool was how he didn't run bags, just cut springs and was done on a budget just to reserect the old car...now nothing of the old rusty really remains. Sad really.
Then again, it could be argued it is a true rat car now. Beaten body since all the dollar has gone into making it quick.

I still love it!
The USAF fighter scheme is my current rat fav. The original mint version was also cool, but at least he made the best of a bad situation.
Nearly every styling mod on the car is illegal over here though.

Mike, I can't believe you went from ghetto junk car borrowing styling from VW "rat rod" shitboxes, and now got bags from the hood along with fast n furious engine OVERNIGHTED FROM JAPAN! You're a whore. I hope it makes you feel better at night that some idiots dig your ride.

nail - head.
rat rods were like that simply for function over form, they looked like that simply because they had to, it was a choice between many more hours work in prep and paint making things nice or just using the thing.
im sure the front end is still a little deliberately styled and try hard but its function over form, so rusty is now a true rat rod.

There is some hate on that site for that car and the jap scrap is pointless. I read the thread but has it actually been repaired where the body had craked.

The bags are crap but IMO that looks awesome. Also the 1jz Toyota engine is an awesome powerplant where the sky really is the limit. If I hadn't already started putting the saab lump in mine that is the powerplant of choice.
