Does anyone on here have any experience with the E36 318is coupe?

Are they as good or better than the E30 or are they a bit of a barge?

Ive heard in the past that E36's suffer from problems with the electric windows and a few build quality issues but are there any major common problems with these models?

the build quality issues effect the early dirty sixes... such as mine... but i have a 328 injection sport... and i havent had any issues.. well apart from a @hagged engine lol...

the windows can be an issue on the coupes, they need greasing regularly to keep them from sticking, mine stick a bit but not got round to greasing them yet, should before they break.

e36's dont suffer from "build quality" issues IMO, thats probably wishful thinking from some fanatics on here, they have their problems but no more than any other car. doubt you will have any issues with the m44 engine, i havent and they are not particularly slow, just not particularly fast either. :D better on fuel of course. wouldnt say they are a barge either, mine handles great and its utterly standard apart from uprated shocks and a stainless exhaust.

I've had a 328i Coupe - most capable car I've ever owned.

E36's can be quite heavy on front bushes and balljoints but I believe you can retro-fit E30 components which are longer lasting.

Electric window issues are quite common on Coupe's but apart from that they are pretty well screwed together. If fuel/insurance isn't an issue the 328i now is one hell of a car for not much cash :D

engine wise it's alright and will deffo get you a ban if you want.

Tim, the early ones that had the interior trim quality issues were H and J reg '91 cars.

E36's have their common problems just like any car but overall they a very good and have good reliabilty.

Common problems,

Snapped rear springs
Worn front control arm bushes
Rear trailing arm bushes
Front ball joints
Rear metal brake pipes
Electric window regulators
Cooling system components
Camshaft and crankshaft sensors

and worst of all, scummy penniless council owners!

Why waste money on getting/keeping your turd up to scratch mechanically when there are so many tasty morsels to spend your benefit cheque/personal injury award/JD sports refund on !

Check this turd out ! I bet Dazleeds will be reaching for the Lidl kitchen towel !

Everett was in 'artiste' mode, though some of the 'gayness' might be caused by the reflections of the freshly claybarred and zymoled guards red duco ! :)

Pete seems to have got the hang of the Internet! I look forward to many more 'restoration' photos once various turds have had their 60 minute makeover and left for their new owners.

I am still a one finger typist but i have just about sussed all this picture malarky, at last !

The E36 is a 3 owner total BMWsh 74000 mile minter that was rescued from two very rich but very council bum boys who had spent the last year councilling it up. It has been served to one of my customers who also has an E30 M3 convertible. He actually likes the anal eyes/projector sh1t and 'M' coloured bumper mesh ! Everything else is coming off and getting ebayed. Luckily all the original bits were carefully boxed in the boot.
