Just sold my 325i E30.. and fancy a change/something newer for the time being.. considering an E36 318ti, actually gonna go have a look at a few.. Are they any good? Gonna be using it as a daily driver with a few choice mods (mtech kit, coilovers and style 5's if they fit) Anything i should look out for whilst choosing one? Any advice is appreciated

whats your budget buddy!take your time i just bought a 2000 318ti dakar yellow compact sport(1 of 200 made),full black leather(mint),air con, clifford g4 alarm,1yrs mot 6months tax,44k on the clock,2 owners, really mint car.payed £2750.00 for it.an absolute steal imo,i nearly chewed his arm off as 6months previous he had it up for 4500.00 but he was desperate for a sale and the car market is mashed at the mo.had an inspection2 done on it and no problems at all so im very pleased.dont get me wrong its not half as much fun as my e30 but its a nice ride and dare i say it...reliable(something my e30 aint)i found autotrader the best for compacts you get a huge selection

Yes they are aesthetically challenged but are very practical, drive well , simple and cheap.Great cars for peanuts. My '98 avus blue Ti sport cost me £300, OK it has a dig on the rear quarter but the A/C would freeze an eskimo ! :) My loan car /tip chariot is a '95 316 'pact , bought for the grand sum of £1.20 on ebay (including 340 miles of petrol! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ). Alas it was a bit 'troubled but it is now fully recommissioned with a years ticket ,6 months rent and mechanically sweet owing me £250 :D

Later M44 318 TIs are the best all rounder. 4 wheel discs, sports seats, decent suspension and 40 mpg potential.

The only people who slag off compacts have never owned one.

fookin hell bargain! £1.20! haha.. im impressed! wonder what the sellers face was like when you turned up to pick it up!

Cheers for the advice lads.. scouring autotrader as i type this! Hopefully a bit more easy on the fuel on my daily commute than the 325

exactly the reason i got one. £30 a week on fuel is a lot nicer then the £70 i was spending in the m3. plus parts and running costs are dirt cheap. my little 1.6 has done 118000 miles and still feels tight and new without a creak or rattle.

oh, and i used mine to move a dining table 30 miles at the weekend. try that in an e30 :D

Probably had a shocked and slighty sick looking expression.

Still at least he got a fair price for the car..
