guys, need to know if filling up the autobox fluid is going to be a problem on my e46?
someone told me you need to have it plugged into a computer to open up the valve?
and some say you can keep the revs at 2k rpm and pump the fluid through by hand ?
any ideas?

First make sure you have the correct autobox oil, the only reason you need it connected to the computer is to make sure its at the right temperature ( 30 to 50 degress ). Make sure the car is level too. Check the level at idle speed and in park. You can then undo the level fill bung and top up as required until the oil just runs out of the bung hole.

cool, thanks dude, ive been asking countless people, and have figured that the special oil needs to be used, (high life oils)? and then make sure its topped up as far as you can when cold and try to top it up again whilst in all the gears !

From cold fill the gearbox until the fluid just starts coming out of the bung, refit the bung. Then run the car up to between 30 and 50 degrees. While running it up to temp run it through all the gears a few times. Then at the right temp undo the bung again and top up until just running out again. Make sure you use the right oil though, it might be written on a label on the gearbox oil pan which oil to use.
