Assuming that the M3 is the same fitment as the other E46 coupes then yes. A friend of mine bought a set of LED lights from the dealer for his '02 318Ci and they fitted perfectly, BUT because the LEDs only use a fraction of the power of the original bulbs, the Check Control kept telling him that the bul bs were blown...

Solution: He wired in a normal bulb in the wiring loom inside the boot and every time the Check Control tests the rear lights it thinks that they are ok and wont show up any fault... A bit of a hatchet job but it worked. I dont know if you can reprogramme the Check Control or get a new module instead. I hope this answered your question.

or wire in a resistor like above instead of a light bulb

interesting fixes... the bulb fault can be corrected quite easily. garages who have an autologic diagnostic kit can cure them for you. basically, because it is a quite common upgrade, there is a retrofit function on the diagnostic computer which will cure the recurring fault. charges vary but it is easily possible...

as said, they are programmable and charges will vary. i wouldnt reccomend butchering it like frogman's friend did though

Yep they will fit but theres more to do. You'll need new light leads, and the LEDs.

You'll have a error message but to get rid of it you'll need new light control managment for the lights as the old one will not support the LED's.

You'll also need to re-flash the lights from a Independant garage whos specialies in BMW or a BMW Dealer for the new switch to work with your car.

For a reflash of the LCM, You can use at a lower price then dealers.

They'll fit alright - the LCM needs to be reprogrammed. You can actually do it yourself with a piece of software called Navcoder and an IPBus interface (total cost €50 or so)
