When I start my 316i up when cold and switch it off after a short run there is a smell of petrol, which disappears after a couple of mins. The smell seems to be coming from the top of the engine, any ideas? I checked the fuel feed/return and the pipes look fine.

Yeah, but then he would have the smell all the time, the carbon canister is to vent the fuel tank, so it should only really smell if its cold surely.

Replace the carbon canister really, I imagine its stopped filtering the smell. I would check that all of the pipes are ok first though.

How much would it be to replace the canister? I cannot see any physical leaks on pipes, it is only 5 mins from cold then it stops smelling completely.

I think they are about £30, not sure if the likes of GSF stock them.

Gonna pop down GSF in vain hope that they might have one, been slightly distracted by my new project car to sort this issue out.
