The cost of running two 320's has been getting me down, so had been looking around for a 316/318 to replace the two door as my every day car, with no joy, however this came my way last night!
I'd say it's as close as i can get to an E30 with out the worry of jacking points come MOT time!
I understand if i get banned from the zone!

no but theres nothing to say its totaly inferior, its more about the compnants and the exicution of the design than the layout.

Very homosexual.

But they can be made to look ok. A mate of mine has one as a runabout while he fixes up his cossie. Owning a carnoisseur though I dont think he could resist the temptation to mod it..

compacts are good

they take the steering and front end geometry from the e36, which is good.

the rear suspension is from the e30 as you know, but the geomety is different, the wheel base is similar to the e30 m3 beleive it or not.

there is a guy who is racing a compact with a s14. the engine is just one of the units he uses. the guy has an e30 m3 also which is strictly track. the comparisen he says are very similar.

the lack of boot, and the corner-set rear wheels make the compact very sturdy in turns.

with a decent arb on the back, i think a compact might even show a fairly well´set up E30 a run for its money
