Evening All,

What do you reckon, do you think now is the right time to buy a tidy e36 m3 before prices rocket?

If so which one?

I quite fancy a 3.0 one but the prices seem to have really picked up, I'm well aware that they won't match e30 m3's however could well be a good investment.

All opinions welcome (from people who know what they are talking about)

If your after an investment then you should be looking for a 3.0 Gt

Daily miles + investment don't really go together.

Agreed Barry.

I think the time to get one of these was about 2 years ago. Much like a Z3M Coupe. :D

I reckon we will do OK out of it, but it really is used as a Weekend car only (2000 ish miles per year).

996 911 Turbo has got to be the next one to go up, surely. That is what I would do with the money if I sold the Z3M.

Oh you can use it, just sparingly so the miles dont creep up.

As Jon says, keep it as a weekend car.

As Barry said, but if you must then either a 3.0 gt or evo gt2 are your best bet.

I'm thinking about one to put on a track. My recent porker purchase and frequent visits to knockhill are giving me the urge to enter into the financial ruin which is Motorsport. I'm Thinking a four door or 2 door evo ?

A nice e36 is a pleasant sight these days.its not often I see a clean m3.
The streets are littered with e46s and every new bmw is a 320 m sport.
For me an e36 m3 is a cool car again.

The E36 M3s I would pick if I were going to buy one as "future investment" would be
Imola Individual GT2
Evolution Coupe Manual Estoril Blue with all the toys

Low owners, low mileage FBMWSH, standard, unmolested
Those are your best bets but to buy and find them now would be at the top of E36 M3 market but these are the ones which will go up the most or command the higher E36 M3 prices in the futures as those who aspired to have one / had one in the 1990s look to get reacquainted again!!!!

A GT2 currently depending on mileage / history / condition can get £22k
Can 3.0 GT get that ?
I thought collectors like last of the line / limited edition cars ?
I certainly would have Evolution over 3.0 litre anyday

I do agree now days when you see standard E36 M3 Evolution they do look really good IMO

IF there was a one owner 3.0 GT it would probably make more than £22k!

It's a much better car in respect that is not just an individual colour and a few options like the imola car.

The 3.0 GT has anindividual colour (British racing green), individual trim, uprated cams for more power and aluminium doors for lighter weight.

Yep, decent E36s are becoming a thing of the past. I hardly ever see a saloon or coupe nowadays, just the odd convertible, touring or grotty compact. The only E36 M3 I've seen in Norwich recently was a peach of a saloon, 'twas a lovely looking sleeper 8)
