How far away from you is it?

Might be better to go down in person if it's not too much hassle so you don't have to deal with the bell end on the phone

Don't be angry Si. You'll have the last laugh , simple equation below

sales man over prices car = sells no cars = made redundant

tbh Si, it was have been a big project, you know what it's like when you start stripping these old turds , lots of hours and lots of pounds

Here's an idea, why not get a decent old BM you can enjoy on day 1

You have made the correct, informed choice IMO,Simon.

Sometimes you have to make you wallet rule your heart, and this is such a time.

If a rod is waving at you,the thing will have been driven hard,so there will be lots of other running gear issues as well.

Sit back, lay a few more bricks,I assume that 'Ali' has your phone number? winkeye

I went to view a cheap Cadillac Seville STS back when they had a value . It was described as needing a service and the alternator being noisey.
The seller assumed a service would sort out the firing on less than eight cylinders issue and a new alternator would sort out the noise. He was wrong, a rod had made a dash for freedom and was spanking the alternator !
I did jump when I put a battery in it and fired it up ! :)

How hard must it have been spanked to punch a hole in the block ?

It's a turd and the dealer sounds like a typical deluded clueless mong. You're better off out of it Si.

Remember the B3? Trader on drugs first off and the deal went cold a few times IIRC.

This could still come off Si but bide your time.

Preston is indeed 250 miles, and you have to factor in that it aint no fun there and back in a low loader! But it could still be yours. I'm not sure there would be too many people biting his arm off for that much work, regardless of how rare it is.

Play it cool. One more phonecall to the head man, NOT this Ali geezer. Make sure he has your details and the figure you have in cash waiting for a hassle free sale. Then leave it. If he has any sense, he'll sleep on it and come to the conclusion that 3 bags in the bank next week and a fresh space for a running saleable asset in the car park, is better than this thing still being in his way in 2 years time!

True maybe worth a shot to the other salesman and wait. I'd pay a little more but like you say Trev it could end up like the B3 when no one will touch it. Theres no hurry, i've got the E30 engine rebuild number 2 coming along nicely now to keep me busy as per 8)

Perhaps because either;

a) They are mechanically clueless, and aren't even aware of the problem.
b) Too skint/can't be ar$ed to fix it.
c) They have a bizarre fetish for clapped-out turdz which run a bit off-beat.

I should send him the repair bill for the one s38b38 that we did. The block was just about saveable on that one. Suddenly your offer will make sense to him.

I bet that car will end up being sold online by the guy's brother-in-law as a private trade.
Slight misfire, probably needs new plugs, I'm off to Dubai next week for my dream job so need it gone quick and sold as seen.

Keep your eyes peeled Simon, it deserves someone who can take care of it.

While we are on the trail, how about an altogether potentially more uptogether one?

A 5 speed touring in diamond black with black nappa leather, the seats are heated front only but i think its a narrow grill with the original EDC fitted i'm probing for more details. It needs a little engine and SLS work. I'm waiting on more details. Its a bit light on spec this one but you can add trinkets as you find them

No 'factory' RHD tourings, all home brew lash ups, some better than others, all FAR less desirable than a proper LHD car.

Was driving home from working round the mother in laws house earlier which is the other side of town to me and low and behold. This is a mate of my Dads and its usually tucked up on his drive but its on the road, he wants to sell and get a porka 993 of some sort. So i knocked on the door to see the crack, hes mad has 20 motor bikes, 2 morgan 3 wheelers a 1957 pickup truck plus this and other cars.

its a 3.6 in brilliant pink, 157,000 on the clocks he bought it in 1999

Its got black half leather interior which is fully electric including lumbar, plus the rear seats for two only. Rear blind, shadow line., clear indicators. Grey headlining. The rims are 9j rears which he thinks its had from new? Hes deleted the SLS and its running Koni rear shocks. Air con is still on R12 but has stopped working this past year. Its had a clutch, its on goodyear F1 tyres all round

I cant find any rust on any of the panel work, hes had the skirts off several times over the years to clean, waxoyl etc. Its never been welded. The interior could do with a good hoover but its boardering on immaculate, the drivers seat is very very good, note he has used seat covers!

I like it bar the tired paintwork its seems mega original especially in the engine bay, a Dick lovett of swindon car originally so no northerness here. I could of had it for £2000 a couple of years ago but he wants i think i could get it for about £4500

Its looked after mechanically but needs a good interior clean and some paintwork if it can't be detailed up. Skirts painting silver again, rims refurbed

This has been in the wings for a long time this one and it sounds like it's worth pursuing Si.

Being a 3.6, would the sills and lower sections have been Silver Grey? I thought that was only the later 3.8's?
