This sorry shitbox is the reason BMW bought Rover. They needed a cheapo brand to pump out 2-3 million cars a year to make the real money, and preserve BMW as something special.

There seems to be very little enthusiasm at dealer level for this thing. It's so very, very wrong.

This is exactly why I put myself in a new XF. The new BMW's are a mere shadow of there former selves and the M badge stands for nothing nowadays, Audi's are owned by the bellends that left BMW when they realised they were sliding into the cesspit and Mercs are just shit!

My XF has a pulsing heartbeat (I kid you not), a bit of theatre when you push the start button, has bags of character, is a bit more exclusive and better received by people and looks pretty too........Win-Win in my book!! 8)

Depends what engine. The XF is heavily based on the S Type underpinnings but there was little wrong with those. I think I'd still have an F10 over an XF but they're both lovely cars.

Mk5 gti. I looked at 1 series and they were all under specced, over priced shite with high miles.

I struggled to find a nice gti if honest as I only had a budget of 7k max. I looked at a few shite ones but have ended up with an 06 silver car with 68k up. Has the 18" monzas, leather, auto lights etc. and it was only 6 bags. Needs detailing but a nice straight 2 lady owned car. It'll be our 3rd GTi.

Sounds like a similar spec to mine, I have nav and iPod connection too with multi function steering wheel, I want to add xenons at some point and I'm toying with a remap, got to say I'm very happy with it, it's currently getting a repaint at work, the 18's do look good but do nothing for the ride, a set of pilot sport 3s will set you back £400 too, I just put a set on in January, such a capable car and unlike the one series it's got room in it.

I'm really pleased with mine....had an F10 on demo for a week and it was a good car, but it didn't feel special enough, add to that the fact that there's 3 in my road and as B7 said it just seemed a bit 'everyman' and average....the XF just feels a bit more premium......

Get the front arch liners out, and clean/waxoyl the front arch lips. You may find the beginnings of surface rust right at the top - a big rust blister at the top of the front arch is an increasingly common Golf Mark 5 problem. Not as bad as E46's....yet.

Already inspected Andy. It's as clean as a whistle but they will be removed to fully to protect them. Of the 4 I viewed, 2 had rust. One had crept from 12 oclock on the arch, right round to virtually the front bumper. "Immaculate" it was!!!!! NOT!!

VW are still repairing them mind.

It's just had 2 new Dunlops on the rear with the fronts (matching) only about 4k old. Not my choice of tyre but another bill not to worry about for a while.
