Hi Guys, I need a little help on my e46 as I have a windscreen wiper problem.

Car: 325Ci M Sport 2004

My wipers will not work on any settings. the only way they will come on is when I activate the windscreen washers and the wipers follow up with a single cycle to clear the water. None of the speed settings work not even intermitant and the rain sensors will not activate them either.

The day they stopped working I did two things that were outside my usual routine.

the first was helping someone jump start their car and the second was washing my car with a jet washer. After the car was washed I could not get them to work.

I have gone under the bonnet and checked the brown wiper relay for corrosion and gunk but it look as good as new (Australian car, dry conditions)

Is it possible that the relay is blown or would the symptoms point more to a faulty wiper stalk?

I cant right now as im in the uk and car is in Sydney. Parts cost a load there so I was trying to get the parts whilst I was here.

To be honest I just don't know enough about any BMW's other than the E30.

Don't want to move a perfectly good car on just for a simple fault.

The small wires in the stalks often break, affecting wiper function and OBC function. I'd take the steering wheel off, remove the column cowl and remove the stalk and open it along it's seam to inspect it's innards.

You'll have to do this to replace the stalk anyway.

Dont rule out a duff ignition switch on this, My '46 had some wiper gremlins and a new ign sw sorted those.

Thanks for all the help.

In the end I just swapped out every fuse that could impact the wipers and voila! they work.

Checked all the old fuses and none appear to be blown. Strange, but all is sorted so case closed.
