E32 Transmission issues.....

my 88 735i auto box is playing up, she still shifts from d to r however in d she only stays in 3rd, even when selecting 123 she just wont budge out of third. anyone experienced similar before in either e34 or e32? i do have a replacement gearbox ecu, are these located on the passenger side? thanks in advanc al.

I think that is the gearbox failsafe mode. Is the gearbox still in the E32, and if so, what error messages are you getting on the dash LCD display?
