Yes it only has one turbo. A KKK turbo to be precise.

They are a lower compression M30 with oil squirters under the pistons and I think a few other tweaks too.
I don't think they ran a lot of boost as standard, so less than 300bhp I believe.

Still a right old wagon though!

Bet it is a right laugh to drive until the first corner where mid eighties brakes and suspension become horribly overcome by the momentum imparted by 300bhp

It's not been on a dyno yet but 300bhp is a fair guess, with potential for more with a decent re-map - when I can afford it.

Credit must go to Toby Unna though, it's his set up that I bought off him.

my mums comapct is badged a 316i but has a 1.9

the new 135i are turbo 3.0 units
the 123d are 2.0 units
335i is a 3.0 turbo

745 name was something to do with the way they calculated the nominal cc of racing engines in the ETCC. You could have a 2 litre Turbo or a 2.8 litre NA. I think it's something like that, a factor of 1.4 on a turbo gives you the NA capacity.

Are M30B35 engines really 3.4, as its rated at 3430cc?

Well if it's rounded to the nearest 100cc as is traditionally the way, then yes.

The earlier M380 in E12 / E23/ E24 are 3453cc, so they are 3.5!

The new models use 'equivalent' ratings.

118d, 120d and 123d all use the same basic 2.0 engine with different setups (123d is a twin-turbo). I know intercoolers are different between the 118d and 120d, so, it's not just a tuning job between them.
118i and 120i are both 2.0's

The 3 series world-wide is an interesting mess of models.
318d and 320d use the same engines as the 1 series, although there is no 323d - that is covered by the Alpina D3.
318i and 320i are the same engines as the 1, there was a special 320Si to homologate the touring cars.
325i, (US) 328i and 330i all use the same 3.0 basic engine in different states of tune. There was a 2.5 325i as well, and I believe this was sold as the 323i in the US. The 335i is the older 230bhp 3.0 engine with 2 turbos, and the 330i is the newer, lighter 265bhp engine.
325d, 330d and 335d are the same basic engine, with different setups, as per the 2.0.

Outgoing Z4 has 2 2.5 engines concurrently - i (175bhp) and Si (220bhp). 265bhp 3.0Si replaced the 230bhp 3.0i model.

Where it really gets confusing is:
Same engine from the 135i / 335i is used in the 740d - with slightly upped figures. Which are suspiciously close to the figures people are getting from standard 135i / 335i dyno tests (no doubt not to lose M3 sales)...

Correct about the 1.4 figure ~~~~ oem engine size in the beginning was 3.2 x 1.4 = 4.5 later cars had 3.5 but same output was :: 252 bhp and 280 lbs/ft tq or 380 nm

the engine had the code M106 C.R. of 7.2 with oilcooled piston
aircooled exhaust manifolf and blablabla,, in 1980 when 745 was launched the MB 500SE had absolutly no chance to follow this quick ladyshark on the AUTOBAHN,, in these days this was stunning performance,, and the car pulled forward in a rush that 252 hp was not able to do
very strange number that BMW gave on the hp scale

a friend of mine had one , (( there was 4 cars imported to Iceland 3 almost new and 1 later ))
when the 750 was launched up for a sprint ,, it could not follow
750 was also a LOT HEAVIER
damned fast these 745

IMO on of the greatest car BMW have ever buildt and very very underrestemated..
True performance limousine and was ahead before the E28 M5
took the Sport-limousine title with brave later
