I dont like Estoril blue (why they replaced Avus blue on the E36 M3 with it I dont know?) and the cream interior doesn't sit well in it either IMO!

I like the colour but not sure on all the colour coding. I prefer the one in Blitz's sig pic. It needs some black to break the colour up.
Don't get me wrong though it is a stunning car.

Exactly, thats what i thought. The guy , like a lot of Alpina owners is a deluded c0ck. Yes it is(was) a very nice car, albeit a bit OTT, but to strut around telling everybody you have turned down 50 bags when at the time the car was worth 25k tops marks the owner as a sad tool :(

While I won't disagree with your generalisation about Apina owners, in relation to the owner of this car, your descriptions are more than a little harsh.

I know him well - not just internet know him, I know him well. He's been a guest at our home, and the attitude you describe is just not him at all.

He is pretty realistic, if a little optimistic, as to its value and he wouldn't be strutting anywhere. At the time of that offer and the same guy's other, subsequent higher offers, the car simply wasn't for sale.

He didn't necessarily believe that it was worth more than 50k, but he didn't want to sell it. He also accepts that a pay out of £30k is *financially* a great deal for him as he'd never get that for the car, but he wants the car fixed because he wants to keep it.

My own view FWIW is that he should have sold it then - it's been very unlucky since - and I suppose with hindsight, it may be that he now thinks along those lines too, but your unneccessarily offensive descriptions of the owner are very wide of the mark in my experience.

Did you express that opinion to his face at the time? If not, why bother to post it in here where he is unlikely to see it?

I had you down for one of the more considered, maturer members, Pedro.

Biker stats:

Bikes acocunt for 1% of road traffic, yet 20% of road fatalities.

I found that interesting and quite significant.

Wonder what percentage of that 20% is rider error / rider being a :wan:, and how much of that is car drivers knocking them off / not seeing them.

Also bear in mind, Nathan, that you are talking 'fatalities' not 'accidents'. If you have an accident in a car, you are likely to get out alive, whereas on a bike, you are more likely to kill yourself.

Like many, I have seen a lot of total morons on bikes who obviously haven't got enough sanity to be a member of the human race, let alone ride a dangerous machine on the road. But I have also seen a lot of cars being driven by equally stupid morons too.

I'm more interested in the 1% stat.

As a driver, I'm always courteous to bike riders, I pull to the side to let them through, about 60% show gratitude. I'm not sure if that relates to the 'moron ratio' or not.

Yet that figure (the 1%) and their overly apparant vulnerability on the road, I think riders should be showing car drivers more courtesy. A large majority of bike riders give off the perception they have the right of way and other vehicles are just in the way.

I think the accident survivability for both cars and bike drivers/riders is directly related to the speed of the vehicles involved, probably in a like for like manner; i.e. the slower the crash speed, the more likely people are to survive. A proper smack at 70mph plus would more than likely prove fatal regardless of mode of transport (car/bike).

I feel bikers command too much covenance on the road. Television ads for example (The car that correctly executes a right turn in a town centre environment, but the biker tries to overtake..). Another example; I drive through Kingkerswell on the way to work in Paignton quite regularly at the moment. On a 2 mile stretch of road, I think there are 3 signs asking drivers to be cautious of motorbike riders. Yet 1% of traffic on that road is motorbikes. Surely the signs should be directed at bike riders asking them to stay in traffic or risk being knocked off (lots of junctions on that road).

No, I am using an Alpinestar SC1 suit with full body armour. I would use an airbag suit though if they invent one.

Why worry about it Rosco? if you don't like bikes don't ride them, its the same for mountain climbing, hang gliding, white water rafting, and fire eating if you don't like them.

With your logic we should not make allowances for anybody vulnerable if their percentile representation does not meet a level that you think makes them worthy.

Rearrange the words below into a sentence that fits your post:

Attitude My Stinks

So I have a poor attitude because my opinion varies from yours? That really says less about me and more about you. Most civil people are able to respect other peoples opinions.

While we should make allowances for vulnerable people, when the majority is 99%, it must be fair to say the over riding responsibility for reducing their vulnerability, lies with the 1%

The fact you link road going motor cyclists to 'extreme' and dangerous activities really does speak volumes for your perceived motivation for taking bikes onto the road.

The airbag jackets looked a good idea, the BBC was running an article all day yesterday about it. I think they're still on the BBC website, there may even be a video of a stunt man testing them.
