HI chaps has anyone got any ideas of the usual suspects on these engines ?

so far;

Car will not start after parked for 2 days was driving fine prior.

have removed plugs and engine is sparking ok, 1 from each bank

plugs smell of fuel and can smell fuel at exhaust

no blockages in air inlet side

no reason to suspect alloy block issue as was driving fine prior and no oil consumption probs.

This is a friends car so dont know all the history, got any thoughts on what could fail so abruptly and cause these symtoms on next cranking?

not prone to the timing chain jumping are they?

cheers

Flooded?

They are prone to flooding if, for example, it kicks, but doesn't quite start or you move it a few feet and switch it off again.

Try cranking it over with your foot to the floor for a while, if it was flooded, it'll come bacl to life slowlty, cylinder by cylinder, keep cranking and keep the throttle fully open until it'll run on its own. For added entertainment have an unsuspecting friend stand behind the car. He should be invisible after a a few seconds of it running.

You're probably already a member but in case you aren't have you tried looking on forum.bmw5.co.uk? They're very helpful and should be able to point you in the right direction?
